I know, me personally, I take a 5-10 seconds vids of each song and then I engage with the song and having fun, but I still want something to remember.

Each person can choose how they want to experience the concerts:shrug:

Agreed. During Mayhem I got my favorite parts of each song and then just partied the rest of time. And since we're talking about concert etiquette, it's the same with drinking at concerts. Get yourself a little buzz if you do drink but don't get sloshed! You didn't pay all this money to feel sick and not remember anything :huntyga:

I feel a lot of people that know exactly who they are 👀🏳️‍🌈❓

It's 2026 and almost 2027, you can't stop people using their phones for recording. It's way normalized now ever since pocket cameras days in early 2000s. It's their rights and prerogative to do so. It's mainly serves as proof they were physically at that show. I feel like the more some people have resistance over this, the more the rest of the people will fight back. People need to just get with the time.

I want to get some of those Meta Glasses.  Film while you watch!

honestly ---- I'm a gaga fan first and an archivist second.

If she truly wanted to this i'd respect the vision.

I know she'd counteract by having at least 1 recording made for posterity / history / fans who cannot go who are either disabled, can't travel, etc.

There is also more than one way to document a show. I used to sit at this website for hours upon hours after a gaga show and type my experiences.

Documenting with a phone saves the night in different ways but it's how you do it.

I recently shot 60+ gigabytes of UHD Gaga at the Forum and UHD King Princess at the Wiltern, all by holding the phone steadily out of "eye shot" of others and still aimed at the stage for maximum visuals.

There are ways to do it ethically. I dont make a sound, I pay off drunks around me to shhhhuushh, and I generally dont bother anyone, if someone bothers me I move. there are just mindful and ethical steps to take to get best of both worlds.

I want: historic shows preserved for all who either were there or couldn't be there (the higher altruistic concept of The World)

They want: to have fun, and they become part of the documented experience (but I mitigate the noise they make for maximum capture of why we are all here: the artist)

The trick is to thread the needle with both sides satisfied

No! As much as I would've loved having a not spoiled Gaga tour experience I would literally die of curiosity not knowing what her next tour looks like. Moreover, I have a hobby watching her most vocally demanding songs in different performances every night and listen how she handles them each time, like a new MR climax which made me love this song truly for the first time or a DC's rendition of piano TEOG which was one of her best performances ever. So no. I need to be fed. Once I was there I recorded a little my 1st night because I wanted to be in the moment and have my Gaga ecstasy from the 2nd row. But let everyone have their kind of fun

whether or not phones spoil others experiences, i think there are far too many safety implications to banning/disabling people’s phones in huge crowds, arenas, stadiums etc. unfortunately that’s the reality we live in. and i’m not even talking about terrorist attacks, though that’s a valid concern — lots of young kids go to gaga shows. if i were a parent i’d want to be able to have a direct line of contact with my child in a crowd of thousands of people, all the time

edited to add: of course people navigated these same situations without cell phones years ago. but the world is too connected and reliant on this technology now, so there’s really no way around it.

Phones are just part of how some people enjoy live events, people like to record and post for clout or to revisit fave parts or to share with friends who couldn’t come to the show. It’s just a normal part of it now. I have been to shows with those pouches that lock your phone and it’s fine, but then there’s so much extra time lining up to lock and then unlock your phone. Plus I saw lots of people secretly bringing their phones in anyway and still recording and no one stopped them so that was even more frustrating for those of us who followed the rules. At this point I think we just need to accept it.

However I do hate when people, especially already very tall people, choose to record by holding their phone over their heads so they don’t block their own view but block everyone else’s. I’ve actually asked some of these people to lower their phones and they did.

I don't think she should necessarily ban phones

But I've had this idea in my head for a while of a dream concert where a big artist like Gaga does a phone-free concert, but the main screens and soundboard are recorded every night and you can buy a digital copy of the concert video from your exact date for like $5 after the show

Of course logistically it would never work in this day and age. But man, that would be so cool. Everybody just absorbed in the moment, enjoying themselves, not thinking about if they're going to get the right content for social media. Just thousands of people in a room enjoying something together, fully in the moment. Ugh. I just want one night like this

Edit: I also had an idea of everybody with floor tickets getting the chance to hire a go-pro they stick on their foreheads so record their very own view, and that footage getting transferred to their email automatically when they return the camera and swap it for their phone back :laughga:  in an ideal world this would be great, but the general public are too dumb, rude, and selfish for it to ever work. Maybe it could work in Japan, the only culture that is organised and respectful in this way

A really good point tbf

I remember my very first gig (of my choosing lol) I was 14 and saw P!nk at Alton Towers (rogue choice).

Mum & my aunty let me and my friend go deeper into the crowd to get close. My friend went for food and I stayed and ended up on my own in the crowd for entire night.

Definitely think my mum wouldn't have given me anywhere near as much free reign without a phone lol

i went to the pretty reckless in a general admission venue with a friend when we were both about 14, and i doubt it would’ve even happened if we didn’t have our phones. and thankfully we did because we were part of a number of people who got a dude who was being drunk and really violent kicked out and his girlfriend started menacing us outside the bathroom. i can’t exactly remember how it went down but like, we immediately called our parents like “be outside the venue for us ASAP” lol.

Like since people can't control themselves. Why should we accept it?

This! haha, you can literally take phones away and people will be just fine. And if they can't be fine off their phone for an hour or two, they probably aren't someone who should be at a concert haha

Someone was able to smuggled in some camera for Mayhem Requiem, even with yondr in place,  and share some clips of it for example.

I don't remember that at all :bradley:
