CYCLOPS 6,541
PLEASE omg I hate phones so much they really ruined the vibe at concerts. The sea of zombie instagram cinematographers mixed with the price of tickets rising really killed the ritualistic and communal aspect of the live pop show. It's simply not what it used to be and that's such a shame I don't think it's a coincidence that Mother keeps yelling at us to put our hands up more and more.... She wants to see people dancing not a sea of phones. You can literally see the phones go down when she screams it at TMB (ironic watching a video someone took i know)
princedeeblebleble 4,037
Idk, I'm kind of against it in case of like a disaster or if something serious at home happening. Also if I'm gonna spend the amount of money that it costs for shows these days I wanna have a memory of my own experience :P On the other hand, it's a gr8 option for artists that go to very few and select cities. nATAH 59,709
part of me says no because concerts are just too expensive now, i pretty much rely on these people to see the show part of me says yes because it's disruptive to people around you, especially if you're one of those morons who brings a ring light and accessories mother, what must i do? Just like how we (hopefully) don't take out our phones or talk loudly in movie theatres because we want to be respectful of other attendees and the filmmakers. Or how we don't sing along when we're at a musical. There are plenty of similar social rules when attending cultural events that everyone is used to. Concerts have become a bit of a free for all in terms of etiquette, but I think it's too late to really regulate it at this point. People are too used to it. 44 minutes ago, Bronco said: I really think having a phone ban for standing but not seating would be a best of both worlds approach. That sounds like a dream tbh.

Edit caught post early lol Because like, I feel in seats there's always less of like a crowd energy anyway and some venues can be anti-standing up and moving in the seats. So like phones have way less of an impact there. But standing is just so much better when the crowd just lets loose a lil and I do think social media anxiety gets to people when the phones are out. Like there were clips of someone at the london Ariana gigs where someone had set up a ring light and phone stand to record themselves lipsynching & dancing with ari in the background. That's disruptive as ****. There's also countless examples of people filming others enjoying themselves and posting it online. That's gross as ****. And if you are a regular concert attendee you can see how often people stop dancing and enjoying themselves when they see someone near them pull their phone out. Like since people can't control themselves. Why should we accept it? People will do it anyway tbh. Someone was able to smuggled in some camera for Mayhem Requiem, even with yondr in place, and share some clips of it for example. IMHO people need to just stop caring about looking "cringe", like idgi what's the obsession with some people about this. It's a concert, let yourself go and enjoy the show. Fvck who see, or recorded it accidentally for that matter. Especially when you paid too much for it nowadays (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ✧*:・゚ each thing I show you is a piece of my death (*´艸`*) ♡♡♡

Fvck who see, or recorded it accidentally for that matter. Especially when you paid too much for it nowadays Because its not just looking cringe - its being posted online, being ridiculed across the Internet if it goes viral and being tracked down by insane dickheads who then seek to destroy your life for their own perverse entertainment. Look at how many people's lives get uprooted by going viral. Like the hot guy from Target who had to quit his job due to stalkers coming into his workplace to sexually harrass him. I remember the woman dancing at the bus stop going viral and journalists literally hunted her down to identify her and parade her across TV. I've seen it locally in Manchester where there's consistent issues with predominantly drunk young women out clubbing being exposed online and perverts online tracking them down and stalking them. "Its going to happen anyway" is a **** excuse ngl. The gays know how to party
VelvetVenus 329
I like taking some short videos during concerts, but never see them after I always wonder if people recording the whole thing watch it later, usually it seems like they are taking long videos to choose the best parts and put it on stories, tiktok, etc I think Gaga gets a little bothered by the phones up, but will never ban them On social media days it is good that people are recording and posting it
gagzus 27,694
I get it to a degree, but I think recordings of tours being published online actually has HELPED sell tickets. Like how many people here got excited to see any of her past tours BECAUSE of the videos? Or used to stay up to see people post pictures and images from things like The Born This Way Ball back in the day? I think they play their part. But I also did hate when I was at artRAVE and it was just a sea of phones and I didn’t use mine once and was jumping and dancing whilst everyone was just…stood recording. So maybe ban them from the GA floor but allow them in the seats.
CYCLOPS 6,541
I feel like there's a way to do that and make space for the things fans actually want. No phones in the pit only is a good idea. But they could also offer a livestream on opening night for people who can't attend, or have a website like voices of mayhem where every show has a dedicated page with photos and clips to make it feel special... IDK I understand wanting a short memory of the evening but when everyone does it, it really ruins the vibe. The thing is social media is a huge part of the marketing for a tour also, and it's free when you let people do it for you. So I think artists will be really reticent to do anything to change that. It's unfortunate.
