gagzus 26,739
For anyone not from the UK, you must pay a TV licence in the UK to watch LIVE television or catch-up on services that had live programmes on them. Now Netflix, Disney+ and Amazon Prime have CHANNELS with livestreams built into them, you are now required by law to pay your fee in the UK to use the streaming services even if you aren’t using the channels. You used to be able to use the streaming services and not pay your licence fee, if it was the only services you used to watch. Now you have to. onTheBrink 1,950
Oh **** off. I bought one for two months then realized it was bullshit. I keep getting letters through the door that an 'official investigation' has been launched. They're adorable Edit: this guy hasn't paid his license for 20 years and has uploaded every threatening letter he's ever received. It's kinda hilarious https://www.bbctvlicence.com/ Edited Thursday at 11:39 PM by onTheBrink you missed a bit 2

Do it, they literally have no power. Just use a fake email address for iPlayer and you're fine. They can only prosecute you if they have evidence you're streaming. you missed a bit

Currently it’s £180 per year, you can pay per month or in one payment a year. All that money is supposed to fund the BBC to provide “impartial programming.” £180 is for a full licence, people will sight issues and visually impaired who need audio description pay £90 per year. Or you can pay about £60 for a black and white licence which is for surviving boomers/gen x who still have old black and white TVs. (Although it’s expected to be scrapped by 2035.) You pay it to watch anything that streams live television or if you’re watching on-demand of a previously live aired show. nATAH 59,013
I don't get how this would work would we need to pay access youtube/netflix as a whole or just pay to access certain channels that air live tv on platforms? cus the latter is more reasonable than the former but if I need a license to access youtube at all, they can CHOKE mother, what must i do?

So we'll see lots of vague policy rumours and leaks that get dropped before the actual budget. This one seems stupidly idiotic given how toxic the BBC is becoming across the UK political spectrum The gays know how to party

This is ABSOLUTELY happening lol they’ve already started putting a BBC News livestream on YouTube too. So they can add YouTube to the list. Netflix has been heavily considered for well over a year since they started putting on live US sports and Disney+ is showing the SuperBowl live worldwide in 2027.
