Here's my hot takes: -The perpetual lateness on her tours is damaging her legacy BUT I have never met a person who didn't ultimately believe that it was worth it to be up late with Madonna. -Within the Madonna fanbase this isn't a hot take but within the general public it absolutely is. Her best album is Erotica. Followed CLOSELY by Bedtime Stories. Her best tour is WITHOUT A DOUBT MDNA. Her most iconic is Blonde Ambition. Do not confuse the 2. Confessions Tour is her best in the eyes of the fans but is LARGELY forgettable in the GP. Hard Candy album is hot trash but it spawned the BEST remix of Vogue. Vogue 2008 CLEARS most other girls full discographies Her ballads are FAR better than her dance music. Take A Bow is her best song, thus why it was her longest running number 1. Skin needs to be performed eventually. It is legitimately one of the best tracks on Ray of Light. Sanctuary into Bedtime Story is more impactful than chromatica 2 into 911. Bedtime Stories is and probably always will be my favorite Madonna record. The way she navigated that record needs to be studied. Positions (Ariana Grande) WISHES she were as good as Bedtime Stories. I am sick and tired of her singing live in concert and then getting HEAVILY dubbed over for the concert special. If you're present you are inundated by her inability to sing BUT for some reason it works. This presentation of perfection after the tour is over is dishonest and revisionist history. I would RATHER be hearing her not some over edited bullshit that loses ALL charm along the way. The Celebration Tour was completely unnecessary. I loved it. I had fun. I love my blonde ambition bomber jacket but that concert was SUCH a departure from what makes a madonna show such a moment. The new material and the reimagining of her songs within the confines of the new sound presented is ALWAYS an integral part of the show. With this show basically being Finally Enough Love: The Show it felt so ironic (not a good irony) that she decided to look back like that, something she has NEVER done. There were incredible moments but ultimately with the health scare i refuse to pretend that show was a good or necessary idea. Speaking of, why was the box that raised out of the b stage used for ONE song (Bedtime story and ray of light prep) Her performance at Coachella was cool as **** but I wish she got a headline set at SOME point in her career. Like wtf do you mean JUSTIN BIEBER headlined Coachella before Ma****ingDonna. Like a virgin is literally so annoying tew me. MATERIAL GIRL DESERVED HER FLOWERS AT THE VMAs. Imagine her referencing Marilyn and having THAT be the introduction to the VMAs. I don't care that she showed her ass on MTV during one of her most uninspired singles. MATERIAL GIRL HOWEVER that would have been the serve. I cannot STAND the 2003 performance at the VMAs. Britney sounds ridiculous. XTINA looks a mess... Hollywood is ultimately forgettable Missy Elliot (in my opinion) was the most entertaining and unexpected part of that performance. The Re-invention Tour is underrated. American Life CLEARS joanne AND music. X-Static Process, To Have Not To Hold and O Father are her best ballads. (Ignoring my EXTREME Take A Bow bias) She is EXACTLY as impactful as her fans claim, claiming otherwise IS revisionist history. You can bring up the cultural appropriation all day, but her reasoning has always been to spotlight the cultures that she's bringing to the stage. She is unfortunately white in pop music of course the media is going to OVER EXPOSE her to the masses and give HER credit over her black/brown counterparts. The racism of society is NOT a product of her own doing and is why her choosing to SHARE the spotlight IS incredible. She could stand alone and take credit but she chooses to share the stage with various singers, instrumentalists, dancers, and even drag queens. The Vogue era being "problematic" is ignorant as ****. Not ONCE did she ever claim to invent ballroom culture. However at the height of the AIDs crisis she DEMANDED to bring black and brown voices to the forefront of the most popular genre on the planet. Making way for queer people everywhere to be taken more seriously as artists before almost ANYONE else did. True Blue is a perfect album and the best song on it is Live To Tell. There isn't a SINGLE skip (a lot of hard-core fans think that only the hits are good) more people should follow suit with that record more is not better sometimes you just need 8 perfect songs. All killer no filler. She should have gotten the super bowl for Hard Candy NOT MDNA. This isn't a hot take but I just want to say it. SHE SHOULD HAVE NEVER SET FOOT IN FRONT OF A CAMERA FOR FILM. I hate her as an actress AND as a director. Patti Lupone is Right. I'm so sick of how many versions of every song there is on streaming. Express yourself has like 50 versions. And they all SUCK I don't think born this way sounds like Express Yourself. However they do sound the same... like ****. That's what they have in common, they're both ****ing AWFUL sonic journeys with overblown "messages" Confessions 2 is better than Confessions 1. BUT Confessions 2 does NOT have hung up or sorry or Isaac. Madonna's team REALLY needs to fix her digital catalog. Other than one or two (Hollywood being meh and True Blue being perfect) I could have written these. Bedtime Stories is one of the most underrated pop albums from a main pop girl of all time in my view. I'd also consider Drowned World to be her best tour, but I can absolutely see the case for MDNA. Hung Up was #1 on the Dance Club Play chart for the decade - which exclusively measures play count of dance songs inside American clubs (also a chart that Lady Gaga did not qualify for considering Poker Face and Just Dance’s release dates in 2009). In sales just during the 2000s, just including sales between 2000-2009 the top 6 best selling songs were Poker Face (9.8 m), Boom Boom Pow (8.5 m), Just Dance (7.7 m), I Gotta Feeling (7.1 m), Single Ladies (6.1 m), Circus (5.5 m). In lifetime sales, the top 10 are I Gotta Feeling (15 m), Poker Face (14 m), Tik Tok (14 m), Just Dance (10 m), Boom Boom Pow (8.5 m), Bad Romance (9.7 m), Hips Don’t Lie (10 m), Can’t Get You Out of My Head, Low and Hung Up (all at about 5 m). 4 Minutes sold more digital sales, peaked higher, sold more and is 2x platinum vs Hung Up’s 1x Platinum (in 2008).
