The new wave of nostalgia bait is coming

So, if you haven’t been aware or keeping up; Paramount and Warner Bros are merging companies (like how Disney consolidated with Pixar, Fox and their subsidiaries) and now they have a commitment as part of that merger to release THIRTY (30) theatrical movies across both companies and subsidiaries per year; double what Disney puts out per year. And there’s one easy way for them to do that; milk old IP.

Already before the merger, Warner Bros has showed a commitment to milking IP with the upcoming Harry Potter reboot show, spreading the already successful movies over almost a decades worth of television to come. And that is going to happen to a LOT of IP next most likely.

It’s highly likely within the next 5-10 years we’ll get a new wave of nostalgia in movies and TV from all the IP they will have combined; before the merger a prequel movie to GoT was already planned for instance, so expect more movies like that to “full slots” every year from their large bank of IP. Analysts are already predicting a multiple season adaptation of the Lord of The Rings to come after the merger to TV as well as a full Star Trek reboot. 

The merger beyond the financial and consumer concerns is creatively going to absolutely follow Disney’s already successful nostalgia IP system and add a little extra to it; so popular IP from them that exists as movies will most likely become TV adaptations and popular TV adaptations will likely get movies.

It’s also HIGHLY likely they‘ll want to compete with Disney’s merchandise/park domination so expect more merch and eventually an expanded Warner Bros/Paramount theme park beyond just Wizarding World

Here’s a brief list of combined IP between Warner and Paramount they’d have to make nostalgia bait productions with; 

* The DC Universe (Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Justice League etc)

* Wizarding World (Harry Potter, Fantastic Beasts)

* Star Trek Universe

* A Song of Ice and Fire/Game of Thrones Universe

* Middle-Earth/LOTR

*Transformers

* GI Joe

* Dune

* The Matrix

* Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network & Hanna-Barbera (Looney Tunes, Avatar, Powerpuff Girls, The Flintstones, Rick & Morty etc)

* HBO Classics like The Sopranos

* Warner Archive such as The Wizard of Oz, Goodfellas, Steven King’s movie universe

The list is endless, this is just a small fraction of it.

But yeah, just wanted everyone who hates recycled IP to brace for the next wave of it; Disney’s IP fatigue might have happened but we’ve now got Warner and Paramounts to come.

As long as it’s successful it’s not going away I’m afraid. If this Harry Potter reboot has great viewership figures it’ll likely continue.
