Rupert Grint to return to Harry Potter in Broadway play

Harry Potter star Rupert Grint is to return to the role of Ron Weasley - playing the character as an adult in the spin-off play in New York.

Grint was first cast to play Ron in the original films at the age of 11. Now 38, he will join the cast of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child on Broadway for four months from next February.

The play catches up with Harry, Ron and Hermione as grown-ups, 19 years after the end of the events in the original books and films - with Ron and Hermione now married and sending their daughter to Hogwarts.

"Dusting off the old robes. New York - see you all in February," Grint wrote on Instagram.

Last November, he told BBC News he was unlikely to ever "step out" of Ron Weasley's shadow. "I'm fine with that. I think it's great," he said.

In a statement on Wednesday, the British actor said: "Ron Weasley has been a part of me since I was 11 years old and I can't wait to meet him again in this stage of life.

"There is something so full-circle and so special about stepping back into Ron's shoes now when we are both fathers; it is somehow both very familiar and completely new.

"And the joy of being back on Broadway, this time in a role that defined so much of my life is truly exciting."

Grint is the only one of the main three stars from the films to return to their roles, although co-star Tom Felton is currently reprising his role as Draco Malfoy in the same play.

They are not due to appear on stage together, however - Felton will appear until 3 January, with Grint joining on 2 February. He is currently scheduled to appear until 30 May.

also…. To everyone hating on anything HP related… I get it but …I choose “death to the author” and the world is all ours now. I will not let the horrible TERF ruin my joy of my childhood and an incredible book series and movies. She’s tarnished a lot but my fan boy still remains strong… in addition , I can’t wait for the HBO show. And I’m not ashamed about it. F**k JK and I will still enjoy my HP pleasures while I can still get them.

a portion of profits from ANYTHING hp related go to her, and she uses all of that money to fund the removal of trans rights.

I understand and hate that she has her foundation or whatever she calls it, that is a TERF sanctum which is an abomination. Because a lot of users here are trans/non-binary and are directly under threat from her. 

You're sat here saying to them "my enjoyment of Harry Potter is more important than your safety" and expecting these people & their friends to think that's okay. 

Like, there's HP subreddits & other fan spaces. If you want to talk about HP and be safe from criticism go there. 
But it's silly to come onto a site which is predominantely populated by LGBTQ+ people and being shocked at the idea that people here aren't prepared to turn around to Trans users on this site and say they're not important to us.

trans man who used to love harry potter here.  she's actively threatening to take away the rights from me and my brothers and sisters and siblings.  like i said, all the money she gets from this franchise immediately gets put towards that foundation.  please reconsider still being a fan of this series.
