It was less the tempo switch up between verse & chorus, and more the tonal shift between the electronic repetitive riff used in the verses and the more traditional pop instrumental of the choruses. 
Reminds me of how Xenomania would write songs that felt like 2 songs or more spliced together

Now two songs into Night and really impressed by the album. Such a vibe, it all flows really great on first listen, need to pay more attention to the lyrics tho 😅
