Or, I guess a forum-relevant analogy would be having Polansky, for instance, draft apologies to anyone who was wronged by Thiel now, for having worked with him then … or the people who were displaced by Parker‘s Opportunity Zone initiative while he was working with the Foundation during that time … If we are considering time to be a non-factor: that Jasmine visibily supported the performers during her campaign, and that being the rationale behind Yang and Rogers‘ opposition; and/or that similarly, Thiel was visibly supremacist while Polansky was working with him, and that Parker was intentionally exploiting low-income residents for his colleagues‘ gain … or time being a factor, and operating from the position that people only know what they know when they are made aware of said knowledge

Unfortunately, it appears there is plenty of misogynoir to go around … and, it would seem like, in this instance, of all the people to prioritize for apology letters, maybe the women on the receiving end of the featured performing artists‘ assault would be atop the list

The unfortunate patterns of power dynamics that present themselves on the stage of political theatre … and the consequences to very real populations … namely, the women Jasmine represents, demographically, to the GP, seem to be the collateral damage across the board here—because in the grand scheme of things, Talarico, Brown, Raymond, Crockett, Yang, and Rogers are all in a materially and politically more advantageous position than the demographic of women Crockett represents

Genuinely never understood the sh*t they got, tbh. The moment she dropped that ad announcing her running and made her campaign feel like a reality TV feud between her and Trump, it was clear to me that she was an unserious candidate.

Crockett and Chris Brown … Talarico and Reid Hoffman (admittedly, by way of Lone Star Rising Super PAC) … Paxton and his literal party … women Democrats in Texas, whew, even the easy choices are somewhat compromised—the Establishment sort of is what it is, and major party backed politicans have to pay the Pied Pipers somewhere … but, at the same time, I guess it‘s one of those “can‘t let perfect get in the way of good” scenarios … hopefully Talarico maintains his anti-billionaire / anti-corruption stance, he‘s wavered a bit with the recent social issue reversal ( In reversal, James Talarico says he opposes trans athletes in girls’ sports “if it risks safety or fairness [ Source ] )

Billionaire Reid Hoffman gives $10 million to super PAC backing Talarico’s Senate bid in Texas (via The Texas Tribune)

WASHINGTON — Reid Hoffman, the LinkedIn co-founder and prominent billionaire venture capitalist, last month donated $10 million to the main super PAC supporting Democratic U.S. Senate nominee James Talarico, according to newly filed Federal Election Committee records.

While other donors chipped in five‑ and six‑figure sums, Hoffman’s contribution alone was nearly 80% of the second‑quarter haul reported by Lone Star Rising, which took in almost $13 million between April and June. That’s on top of Hoffman’s previous donations of $1 million in February and $500,000 in January.

Lone Star Liberty PAC, the super PAC supporting Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, Talarico’s Republican opponent, raised a fraction of that amount. FEC filings show the committee cobbling together just under $4.3 million from a patchwork of trial lawyers, oil‑and‑gas executives, construction firms and allied PACs, among other donors.

Since launching his Senate bid in September, Talarico has far outpaced Paxton in fundraising, raising over $70 million — more than four times Paxton’s roughly $17 million over the same period. On top of that, Lone Star Rising — which, like all super PACs, cannot legally coordinate with Talarico or any other candidate — has hauled in nearly $22 million, playing a key supporting role in the Austin Democrat’s primary win over U.S. Rep. Jasmine Crockett, D-Dallas, earlier this year.

A prolific Democratic donor, Hoffman had given roughly $77 million to various candidates and committees since 2016, before his spending spree last quarter. Hoffman’s latest check is only slightly smaller than what he gave a leading pro-Kamala Harris super PAC during the 2024 presidential campaign, etching his role as one of the Democratic Party’s most powerful megadonors.

Hoffman’s ties to power recently traced back to Jeffrey Epstein, the convicted sex offender and financier who died in 2019. The release of the “Epstein files” showed Hoffman maintained contact with Epstein after the financier pleaded guilty to soliciting a minor in 2008. The documents showed Hoffman visited Epstein’s private island in the Caribbean in 2014, which Hoffman said was to raise money for the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. An FBI review found no indication of wrongdoing, but the circumstance has stirred interparty tensions, with Crockett attacking Talarico for embracing dark money and billionaires despite his anti-corruption message. Talarico, for his part, has advocated for the full release of the Epstein files.

I still remember when people were trying to accuse Matt Rogers and Bowen Yang of being racist because of their comments about her but they were right on the money to tell people not to vote for her. She’s just not qualified to be representing the democrats.

Just for the sake of reference, to your point, they didn‘t tell the audience to vote (for either candidate), they told their audience “… don‘t waste your money sending to Jasmine Crockett. Do not do it;” which, again, the semantics (and optics of two podcasters from outside any particular realm of pratical, geographic, or policy-driven expertise within the given election—by their own admission—commenting in this way, on this one campaign in particular), though brief and direct, were understandably read as inflammatory (even if only within the realm of representation / identity politics) … and/or, as acknowledged by Yang and Rogers in their own apology …

Bowen Yang, Matt Rogers apologize for saying listeners shouldn’t donate to Crockett campaign ( via Salon )

In a series of social media posts over the weekend, comedians Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers apologized for their comments on the Senate campaign of Rep. Jasmine Crockett.

The hosts of the “Las Culturistas” podcast discouraged their listeners from donating to the Texas Democrat’s campaign in their most recent episode, which touched on Democratic politics and the 2028 presidential election. Crockett announced a bid to be the Democratic nominee in December.

“Any time a politician is making it too obviously about themselves, I’m already done,” Rogers said. “And don’t waste your money sending to Jasmine Crockett. Do not do it.”

Later in the episode, Rogers gave his reasoning.

“She’s not going to win a Senate seat in Texas, you guys. If Beto O’Rourke couldn’t do it, Jasmine Crockett is not going to to do it,” he said. “It’s nothing against her… [She is] very well defined already.”

Rogers words and Yang’s agreement with them sparked outrage on social media, leading both hosts to walk back their statements in posts to Instagram.

“I’m a very progressive person who cares deeply about winning these elections, but my phrasing was not right. I will be more thoughtful! I really do promise,” Rogers wrote. “I have great respect and admiration for Rep. Crockett, and I regret that my words suggested otherwise.”

Yang added in a repost that he “should not have cursorily weighed in on this” and vowed to use his platform “responsibly.”

The outrage comes despite the fact that national Republicans see Crockett as an ideal opponent, an already well-known Democrat who they can effectively message against because of that name recognition. The National Republican Senatorial Committee reportedly ran an astroturf campaign to goad Crockett into the race, seeing her as the most likely to lose a statewide race in Texas among likely Democratic candidates.  The NRSC amplified polls that showed Crockett as a frontrunner and “seeded them in progressive digital spaces,” per a report from NOTUS.
