https://www.thenationalnews.com/business/energy/2026/09/10/oil-prices-hit-105-per-barrel-as-houthis-seize-key-red-sea-port/

The cost of oil per barrel is now up to $105.00 (and possibly still rising) due to the Houthis in Yemen taking control of vital islands and coastal cities on the Red Sea. The strategic city of Mokha and the small island of Perim are now under Houthi control, which effectively is being seen as a closure of the Bab el Mandeb straight.* This straight is much tighter than Hormuz, meaning that it will be easier for the Houthis to control than it already has been for Iran in Hormuz. This all is happening following a major flare up in the Yemeni Civil war, with renewed fighting going on between the Houthis and the government. The Southern Transitional Council is also starting to make a return due to the success of the Houthis recent offensive.

*This straight is on the opposite side of the Suez Canal in Egypt, which makes a country taking control over it dangerous. The Suez Canal is a vital shipping route that allows ships to not have to go all the way around Africa for deliveries of various things.

----

Aaaaaaaand oil prices are rising yet again. Clean energy, anyone?

The way this could have been potentially prevented or slowed if Trump had supported the Saudi requests for US intervention in the last few weeks.
Could not have been timed better for the Republicans, will completely overshadow their TrumpFest midterm nuremberg rally

Apparently the Saudis asked Trump to launch strikes on the Houthis, but Trump said no to them.

The Saudis have been begging for months for direct US support in Yemen because they knew this would happen. The Saudi military has a terrible track record against the Houthis.

Ugh someone please tell me things might get better if the orange clown loses the mid terms…

Don't expect an overnight improvement. But he'll find it harder to make things worse.

That thing that nobody watched or cared about? :ladyhaha:

Pretty sure Fox was the only network to even cover his speech and their viewership didn't change from the ~2 million or so viewers they get every day at primetime lmao

Even my own spineless creep of a governor came out and said it was the dumbest thing he's ever heard 'cause we're already crushed under a mountain of debt and if Trump weren't lying, which he is, he'd have to borrow $1.5 trillion from the tax payers to give the tax payers $5,000, which would spike inflation and drive the debt up even higher. It's just crazy :air:

Speaking of your state, I saw a poll being reported on twitter yesterday that had the senate race as tied. Definitely an outlier, but surprising.

I think Moody's internal polling was showing a single digit race as well but I can't find where I saw that. I wanted to include it in the 2026 thread but...now I have no source :bear:

Donalds (the governor candidate) is really dragging the ticket down. He's being blasted for saying Florida has a ton of "pristine, untouched land" for developing data centers :madge:

Repukes are bad but even they care deeply about protecting Florida's wetlands, water ways, and nature.

If Florida is gonna go blue again, this is the year for it.
