Her biggest asset to her songwriting is her ear for great hooks and catchy phonic sounds, which are more pop assets than anything else. I'm glad she's not feeling the need to be musically avant garde anymore (which again she never was, but kinda postured to be for a minute), because when she's relaxed and chill like Mayhem, things fall into place readily. But a good Sally is able to swing wildly between a 1 and a 10 on the energy scale like a manic depressive, and I feel like Gaga gets a little too tunnel visioned with playing for the back of the room. She'd make an interesting Persephone in Hadestown, but it's a relatively small role for a Broadway/West End debut by someone like Gaga and it's not a production that's been doing much in the way of stunt casting. Personally, I think Gaga needs to do a comedy first. Something that will force her to moderate her character a bit more and focus on giving them peaks and valleys. She was fine in ASIB but that is because that role was tailor made for her and she was not great in HOG (along with everything and everyone else in that movie) especially her accent. She was fine in Joker FOD but she did not have much to work with and not much character either or real moments to show off her skills. side note: I thought it was so strange how she went on and on in interviews about "Lee" being this super complex and layered female character when she is just Arthur's crazy love interest in the film and a stand in for the "obsessed fangirl who loves the psycho" archetype like girl are we talking about the same movie? But I confess I'm not a huge Broadway/theater savant, so I wouldn't know what show/character in particular would work best for her. I just know (in my involuntary, knee-jerk, gut feeling) despite WANTING her to succeed..... she does not have what it takes to be a film/tv actress.
