At the time of its release DWUW was considered a misstep for Gaga - because of R. Kelly controversy, plus messy MV which ended up being scrapped altogether.

Eventually Gaga removed DWUW from the album entirely - even though it was always fans’s favorite!

So, who should’ve been featured instead on the song? Someone who could’ve made song a hit it deserved to be? And of course - someone who wouldn’t need to be scrapped from the album lol

Usher was registered to be on the song, not sure if he actually recorded it but I'd like to hear that :neyde:

Nobody.

The only person I would’ve accepted on it had he still been alive was Michael Jackson.

Cherry Blues

Usher, Justin Timberlake, Adam Lambert, Justin Biber....i can't imagine that. She is another kind of artist. T.I or Pharell Williams were big in 2013, one of them.

Bruno's voice probably fits the best but I'll say Macy Gray

NO ONE

the lyrics ONLY make sense for what she went through pre-ARTPOP era

The lyrics that were added by R Kelly are ... irrelevant to the core message of the song Gaga wrote.

Thank you for speaking truth to power, sister. The solo version clears any feature, official or imagined. A solo version of the song would make it integral to her ethos as an artist, especially for what followed post-ARTPOP, imo.

Disagree, tbh. I think the tension of the song actually needs the pull between the predator and the victim (audience/media + artist).

that would’ve been so iconic… but he had been dead for three years already by then…

Will you take Madonna instead of Michael? :v:

See, I feel as a solo track it acts as a vulnerable inverse of Applause; while Applause masks its insecurity through its metaphors ("crashing the critic" and the like) and tone of bravado and braggadocious delivery, I think DWUW (solo) bares her insecurities and offers a bit more introspection to how much her performance affects her both physically and psychologically. The addition of a feature, imo, dilutes the message.

Now, that is me talking about the song as is. If another, more theatrical artist or feature was added, I could see how it could be elevated.

Also now that I'm thinking about it...Ariana could easily slide on DWUW, all things considered.

I hate to say it but R. Kelly's part really elevated the song. Solo would've been too flat, it needed a switch up in the song
