onTheBrink 1,589
I got really comprehensive cable TV recently that gives me access to literally every streaming service and channel and I've been on a true crime binge. I just finished watching Maternal Instinct on Netflix and oh my god...I was not prepared for that to be the crime. Like....omfg. Easily the most shocking true crime I've ever seen Anyway, I'm in the mood for more so do y'all have any recommendations on truly shocking true crime series? Other ones I watched lately that were intense: - The Ken and Barbie Killer (about Tanya and Paul) - Unknown Number - Should I Marry A Murderer - The Girl In The Picture - Gone Girls: The Long Island Serial Killer Edited Saturday at 08:05 AM by onTheBrink
gagzus 24,433
Probably the literal genocide of Palestinian people that’s the closest we’ve ever came to the Holocaust tbh. No murder or SA or cannibalism story is gonna be more shocking tbh. Because the world literally just stood by and did nothing. Shadownight 591
The Fox Hollow Murders is a great documentary. The ending is shocking to me, but I won't say why because it'll give too much away. Other great ones, not particularly shocking are Wild Crimes, Web of Death.

ALonelyNight 686
I don't watch true crime documentaries because more often than not they're sensationalized with cringeworthy reenactments, but if you're into reading books about baffling cases I'd recommend House of Evil by John Dean, about the 1965 murder of Sylvia Likens in Indianapolis. Admittedly the writing itself isn't that good at points (the author was a newspaper reporter, not a dedicated true crime writer) but the details of the murder itself more than make up for it. It bends the mind to imagine how a young housewife, her children, and their friends can commit such a horrendous murder that essentially flies under everyone's radar while it's happening, despite the sheer number of people who knew what was going on and did absolutely nothing to stop it. https://www.amazon.com/House-Evil-Indiana-Torture-Slaying-ebook/dp/B003L1ZZFA/ref=tmm_kin_swatch_0

They’re both awful equally, although Palestine has the edge out since it’s been happening for like nearly 80 years

Two different beasts. Ukraine is a very bloody war, the genocide in Gaza is the mass murder of people who've been prisoners of occupation for generations. Neither is "better or worse" imo and both need to come to a stop. Whimsical bitch 1
PartySick 173,785
I've never watched true crime programs properly but I sometimes do listen to those true crime YouTube videos. People do some sincerely f*cked up sh*t to each other And it's true, "one death is a tragedy, a thousand deaths is a statistic" 'cause, interestingly, it is more emotionally stirring to hear the details of a poorly adjusted man finding a homeless man and murdering him in cold blood then the killer's mom finds the man's head in her sons closet or any number of the child abuse cases. Human brains didn't evolve to have a real perception of mass tragedies, I guess. If we did, modern genocides would cause us all to die from grief. Ladle Ghoulash 55,051
Not a huge true crime person, but just recently watched The Jinx, which was pretty damn disturbing and also, at times, darkly funny We have forgotten our public MANNERS

"A human head and hands" has STUCK with me. I know exactly what murder you're talking about. That video, his confession.
