Both Countries supply eachother with very critical supplies that they do not produce enough domestically which can get ugly very quickly if things escalate Canada is the largest supplier of oil, natural gas, fertilizer/potash and certain agricultural products to the United States and a major supplier of Lumber, precious metals and other critical minerals Om the flip side Canada is highly dependent on the US for food produce (especially in winter months), refined fossil fuels such as gasoline and diesel, assembled vehicles, tools and machinery among other things 1
EART HL I NG 1,570
As much as I would love to see other governments standing up to this administration, I feel this would only hurt both so I'm not sure how to feel about this
Lucas 31,572
I understand the will to hurt the USA but if it also hurts Canada there is no point.

Agreed. Unless other Countries join to level the playing field this is a bad idea as it would escalate very quickly and the US could criple Canada. I think Canada needs to acknowledge 1 simple fact and that is that perhaps theres no perfect solutions on how to deal with this, just less bad ones. The US is huge in size and if Trump has decided he wants to bully us, theres only so much that we can do. It may feel good to hit back in the moment but an emotional response like that would likely trigger an even worse response from the USA we cant handle. Trump isnt rational, he will go all the way even if it doesnt benefit America just so he can say he "won" I think our best bet is damage control. Were not realistically going to manage his presidency with 0 damage. The goal should be to prevent armageddon type scenario and stand our ground firm to not encourage further bullying but dont escalate unnecessairily. That means we need to accept taking a few punches and only punching back proportionately not excessively 1

RAMROD 118,076
Ummm, I understand the sentiment but that is not the best way to handle this. That orange is petty af, he will retaliate by blocking food/produce flow which is going to be bad for Canada. Like food stuffs already expensive there as it is, if they choose to import from Europe, I think the price will be crazier. Nevermind price from EU,you cant suddenly overnight redirect entire food supply chains regardless of price. It would be a disaster I also agree this would be an emotional response that is not the best way to handle it

Part of me wishes they did. This near to mid terms will have the highest benefit to cost ratio But even so, admitedly the cost would be way too high. Trump is too crazy not to keep escalating to some absurd level and thats what it would turn into
