VMAs are basically irrelevant these days lets be real.

But i'm still kind of shook to see them platforming Madonna like this instead of chasing the latest gen z trend artist

To be fair she did get some new fans through Confessions 2 because of her promotion methods.

They lost all credibility for me when they awarded Katy the Most Iconic Performance over Madonna's Like A Virgin performance, and Gaga's 2009. BLATANT rigging

THIS. I would've understood if Taylor got it because of how rabid the Swifties are with voting, but the second they gave it to Katy is the moment it became clear that it was rigged.

VMAs were always rigged. Ed Sheeran openly admitted that he won the Best Male Video award solely because Pharrell did not attend in 2014

YouTube isn't the world anymore. Only K-pop stans still think it's relevant.

Lol
You're about as dated as you're trying to make Madonna out to be by using YouTube views as a metric in 2026.

Ah yes because it did so well on other metrics. Songs barely charted. First week sales were okay and dropped off. Outside the gayscene barely anyone knows the songs. And the videos, yes, youtube remains the main metric for popularity

No it doesn't though. Because youtube is dying, all the creators are saying it.  That's why all the legacy creators still present have monetised content and started expanding into live entertainment events and subscription based content exclusives.

And music videos are dying as a format as well. They've become major financial loss leaders.  Its been trending downwards since we came out of lockdown.

The industry was talking about this over 2 years ago in response to trends observed 3 years ago.
