I think I really want a rock album from Gaga

I don't get how Rock is always interchangeable here with what used to be Metal. Whenever I open these threads it's about Metallica, etc.  Although OP also maybe meant Queen instead of The Queen?

After a lot of Classical (a forever love) I started off being an 80's (with a dash of late 70's) music fan listening to a lot of Synthpop and different subgenres of Rock. Big fan of everything from Eurythmics (nearly entire 80's catalog is 🔥), Mike Oldfield (especially when with Maggie Reilly but Shadow on the Wall with Roger Chapman is an eternal fave too), Prince ('nuff said), The Police (Message in a Bottle and Don’t Stand So Close to Me are just recs I want to put out there, but they have so many amazing songs it's insane - more Ska-flavored Rock but wholly themselves), Kate Bush, Queen (!!!), Genesis (yes, with both Peter Gabriel and Phil Collins as frontman, the latter's Land of Confusion is a Prog Rock masterpiece but I do love some of his infectious pop confections like Invisible Touch when in the mood, sue me) to Joan Jett to so many more bands/people/individual songs it's too much to list here. Then Gaga, my one and only contemporary love/legend came on the scene, savior of mine!  

I just mean there was a clearer delineation between Rock subgenres - like Prog/Stadium/Pop Rock - and Metal or Heavy Metal. Sure you had blending but the two groups apparently couldn't stand each other, which is ridiculous but when someone says Rock, I don't think of Industrial Metal, though I might think of Industrial Rock. And seeing how we mistreated the masterpiece that is Disease here, I have my fears (I'd love an entire album of Disease-like songs, don't get me wrong). And the streams of poor Perfect Celebrity... Though the "Synth Rock" DWAS seems to be better received outside our site, so who knows.

Gaga'd be perfect for the more "original" Rock style, Prog Rock even and of course Pop Rock imo, and if we're talking actual Soul as a genre in this thread, yessss, I've wanted that for forever! Harlequin-like Soul project please! She has THE voice for it too. She basically has the voice for nearly anything.  

I just don't want a wholly metal-flavored pop album, sorry... Personal taste

I think the whole concept of "Rock" as a genre is really interesting. People have such a clear idea of what it means for them. People cite artists  as their favorite "rock music" that also could identify as "metal", "glam", even in some cases "r&b". It's my opinion people equate "rock music" to a feeling moreso than a specific sound or genre. People say KISS played rock music, but to me they feel more glam-pop. 

IDK, I think Gaga has always been a rock artist in her own way. I think she almost fell into this trap with MAYHEM. I remember her speaking about after finishing "Perfect Celebrity" she wanted to change the entire focus of the album and eventually decided to just make great songs that don't necessarily need to correlate with a "theme". To me, that decision was really smart. I'd rather hear a Lady Gaga album than a "Lady Gaga does rock" album.

Beyonce speaks to this too - that COWBOY CARTER isn't necessarily a country album, but it's a Beyonce album that's been influenced by other sounds. But the sound at the core of the album is hers, individually, as an artist. As it is with RENAISSANCE as well, even though that's a "dance/house" album.

I think Gaga cracked through a major artistic wall with MAYHEM and really got back in touch with her own sound. She's said multiple times how 'Abracadabra' feels like her sound. I'm hopeful for the next album (which I don't think we're going to see for a long time, tbh) will hone in on that sound, innovate within it, and blow her up to the next exciting phase.

and that's literally what defines rock the most, electric guitar driven music, there's not only a persistent guitar riff, there's also a full classic style improv guitar solo, and a section of classic style rock singing too... Not only that but it's also the whole atmosphere of the song and the way it's composed, with the church bells together the main guitar riff, the whole vibe reminds me classic goth rock style songs such as Switchblade Symphony's Dollhouse, the song it's 100% a fusion of classic rock and goth rock clashed in with modern electropop.

She'd do lovely as a feature on some metal or proper rock acts. Spirit Box, Bad Omens, The Plot In You, Asking Alexandria, Polaris or even Amity Affliction could be fun. But no full on album cycle with tour etc. I don't see it

Electric Chapel is a great song, one of my favourites from the era. But its a pop track, with a tiny simplistic guitar riff that outside of the intro is repeatedly drowned out by the pop & dance elements. She's using a vibe not making actual rock music, its about as rock and Charli's rock music. Its at absolute best pop-rock, but honestly compared to actual pop-rock its a stretch. 

Honestly, even Paramore's swing to more alt-pop styled rock on After Laughter is more rock than Electric Chapel.

I know nothing about Beyonce (sorry, like I said Gaga is my one and only post-80's ultimate Star crush/My one and only person&music stan card) but completely agree Gaga is a Rockstar in Popstar disguise - and also that rock as a genre seems to mean a lot of things to a lot of people, since I ALWAYS encounter metal/heavy metal/death metal in these kinda threads which, as I sort of explained in my 80's music section wasn't seen as rock at all back then by either "side".

Anyway, of course I always want her to put her own spin on things - make something wholly hers, which is exactly who she is as an artist, always has been. So if she'd do a Rock-oriented/Soul-oriented side project or even entire album I'd NEVER want her to not be herself and put her own twist on every note - and I'd rather have an eclectic mix of genres on one album if I'm honest, or rather in one song even as she loves to do, rather than a wholly "cohesive" one-genre creation. Because that's her. I never feel like it'd be Gaga Does Rock though as she's proven with Disease, Perfect Celebrity, Can't Stop The High and Requiem DWAS though.   They are Gaga songs through and through.

I do want Gaga doing rock-inspired songs because she's fantastic at it, but maybe mixed with this or that genre and with HER vision, as has always been the case for the ones she's done unless they were covers. Most important is that it contains her fantastic, innovative way of creating music. I want Lady Gaga albums after all, like you said.

That's what I mean. I have no doubts she could get an album together in a vacuum, but I don't see LMs at large actually embracing the era etc.

Does anybody remember all the stank faces when she brought out Starlight x Surgeon for a 30-45 mins set before Artrave? Confront a large portion of this fan base (and Gaga critics) with anything that's artistically demanding in any way shape (of a woman) or form and they'll riot. And don't get me started on the "there's no proper choreography with 20 dancers" for "Single xyz"

did you even read what i wrote? i'm actually a metalhead that listens to some pop artists. it's not a reductive take, electric guitar and its usage is literally the origin of rock music. You don't even know what you are talking about, The riff is not only used in the intro, it is present throughout the song except the verses and chorus which are entirely electropop oriented, and it develops near the bridge closer to the solo, it is not drowned out by the pop and dance elements at all, it is very upfront in the mix.

It's funny that you bring out Paramore out of all things, there's nothing more not rock than the brand of angsty "pop-rock" of the likes of Paramore, Avril Lavigne or Olivia Rodrigo more recently for example, which for the most part are just pop songs dressed as rock with electric guitars doing the chords. Electric chapel at least has a fully fledged and complex guitar solo played by an actual rock guitarist and also a rock style vocal improv section, which is already much more true to actual rock than what the likes of these kind artists do in their most well known songs. Furthermore comparing it to that 2 minute autotuned  song of Charli which doesn't even have guitars, just a synth sort of mimicking a guitar; is beyond laughable, i just have no words....
