But of course this isn't happening for most artists, cos labels want the album chart on Billboard on first week, and vinyl is where they can push for that as far as physicals goes these days. 

I mean, I'm not against it. It's sort of an interesting insight into the artistic process and the evolution of the music in the lead up to release. I listen to music both online and on vinyls, so I get to experience both versions and I'm quite happy with it. I'd understand the frustration for someone mainly experiencing music through vinyls.

With the rampant inflation mainstream labels have forced onto the vinyl market it is an absolute piss take for consumers that they aren't getting the finalised product without prior warning and advertisement of this being the case.

I mean technically that’s NOT the future lol back in the day you had 7” vinyls that had singles and sometimes a bonus track or remix.

This is where the term b-side comes from because a single used to have an a-side which was the single and a b-side which was usually a track that never got out in an album. 12” vinyls we’re also used for a time for singles that had longer runtimes like 7 minute plus remix or full versions of they were dance or rock songs (like Pink Floyd or most 90s dance)

Had whole albums been exclusively different id have been ok with it like if they were different producers etc it’d be a collectors item. I remember back in the day people would fight tooth and nail to get the original CD version of The Fame from 2008 because it had red lettering and the extended intro on Money Honey and the shortened last chorus of LoveGame.

The difference is, that used to be the only format singles came on. And singles would come out months before an album in some cases.

So you either bought the 7/12" single or prayed it came on the radio when you wanted it

It is true...

I've just discovered my Confessions II "Premium Packaging" vinyl that I've paid $100+ for and was amazed at how basic and not exceptional it actually was  Thank god the music is good. And I did notice some differences from the streaming version of the album, nothing major though.

Yeah when I started collecting records, the cost of that premium/deluxe edition of C2 would have been £50 tops.

Like I picked up a RSD ltd edition double picture disc Bat Out Of Hell 2 for £35 in 2021.

Now artists are charging £35/40 for a 1LP black standard edition. Its ridiculous.

What differences have you noticed?

I just bought the CD for Confessions II because I want to listen to the continous mix without interruption

I remember seeing a screenshot of Taylor Swift's online store from 2020, when Folklore was out and the 2 LP variants with different covers were $26... 

iMusic announced a repress of 14 Celine Dion albums on white vinyl coming to their store. The prices are ridiculous. The repress of Courage 2 LP costs 45 €, while the original red coloured pressing (which fits the album much more than that plain boring white) is still available for 30 €. I know they don't have full control about the prices, but still it feels like a cash grab. Especially if Falling Into You gets the third repress this year alone (!), when A New Day Has Come is still nowhere to be found on vinyl

I would need to listen again to pinpoint it exactly to you, but off the top of my head: transition to Bring Your Love is slightly different, and Love Sensation has differences too. I've also noticed sound effects in Fragile I hadn't heard before, though that might have something to do with the vinyl itself that makes certain sounds sound crisper.

Also, the mix is obviously only continuous on each side of the vinyls, so there are 3 transitions missing.

Thanks! I held the vinyl in my hands today at a store, but eventually decided against it because flipping and changing the vinyl three times was my reason not to spend 50 €.

That's why I'm not the biggest fan of continous mixes or live concerts on vinyl, because something is always missing or gets cut.

Some fans were quick complaining about it online, because some outros are missing. But the whole album would have needed two LPs then which would have been even more expensive...

Or it would have been like Mayhem. A second LP just for four songs on one side with the second side remaining empty...
