FWIW I also think COADF is probably her single most overrated album and arguably the overture to one of the worst periods in her career (retreating to a safe sound post AL backlash leading to fears of irrelevance and trend chasing from HC onward). ROL, LAP, Music, AL, and Erotica clear

I mean, I kinda agree but can you blame her for trying to find a safe place after AL backlash?

Confessions II is definitely amazing but to see people thinking this one is better than the whole experience, impact, message, tour AND the standouts that Confessions I has is mind boggling to me.

I was not comparing tour or music videos…

Also, CII has a very strong message - and more profound to me than the one from COADF

It really depends on what you want out of an album. COADF has more genuine HITS, but I think CII has more confessions, more to say, and flows throughout better (it wasn’t really aiming for hits ala Hung Up imo). Personally, I like CII as an album more but if I want a quick hit song to listen to it’s COADF any day. Really just depends on what the vibe is for my dance electronic music hankering on a given day

How can you compare a single album to a tour, videos, era, etc.? COADF was dropped when we got full pop eras that’s just not the case anymore. I think the CII film clears a lot of COADF or at least stacks up to it.

as for message…what is the message of confessions I compared to II? One of the album’s biggest critiques is its lack of heartfelt confessions which is what makes II stronger in that regard imo. COADF is a great and safe dance pop album loaded with hits but it’s also a compilation of songs she’d been working on in different places so she could fulfill her Warners contract. Gotta be honest here, CII has way more to say

Singles are stronger from COADF,

but yes CII is an amazing listening experience of an album as a whole!

Also CII is deeper thematically and more experimental - I loooove that about it!

So I voted for CII! :firega:

What kind of experimentation do you think happens on C2? Like specifically

Betrayal - amazing mix of jazz and that sample of a classical piano piece

One Step Away - adds tropical pop which is very new for Madonna

School - very interesting experimentation with voice, really creative and unusual track with its own mood

Everything - aggressive song with rave music like quality - Madonna is new to rave culture

Song with Stromae - partially in French! Plus, it’s a successful mix of trip hop (which Madonna tried in early 90’s) with the modern sound.

To me, those are more creatively made songs than most songs on COADF

Are you new to Madonna's music?

no not at all!

I know she’s experimenting often, but this time it’s actually really successful and cohesive
