I think when they’re asking if she’s a throwback artist, they’re asking if she’s only relevant because of her older music, as opposed to making music that people actively seek out now (to which I think the answer is definitely yes)

Hmm I still think she’s very present in today’s pop world even if she keeps flopping. She still does massive tours, the fans are interested in her recent singles, not enough for them to become hits but they’re still played at clubs and she hasn’t really disappeared that long for it to become a “forgotten pop act” kind of like Kesha.

Rihanna has not released an album in 10 years and the longevity she has in pop is insane, you still listen to her songs like they’re recent hits and is on top of the most listened artists.

But she’s present *in the context of her old hits*. Being a throwback artist doesn’t mean you’re totally irrelevant, it just means your current output isn’t relevant (imo).

Well, I guess the songs from One of The Boys yes, Teenage Dream and PRISM maybe, but her whole discography is a bit of a stretch

If you see me posting like crazy, I'm either bored or procrastinating.

Id argue Rihanna is also a throwback act and that’s why she hasn’t released a new album because she and her team know she’s probably not going to be as successful with a new album. She makes more money and has a better reputation based on her old hits (ergo; throwback act). Same for Katy really.

I mean we forget Rihanna had a new song out for the last Smurf’s movie and it was terrible and it didn’t chart at all. Also her biggest songs are technically Calvin Harris’ songs not her own. In fact the majority of her most streamed songs are all songs that have features so she has two fanbase worth of streams from other artists including the likes of Drake who’s huge on streaming.

We dance around the fact Rihanna is probably incapable of producing a new hit single because even ANTI didnt do that well outside of Work (which once again is with Drake). I mean she only stopped making music once she finally started underperforming by her own standards and the music wasn’t top 40 radio pop.

That’s why she’s had like multiple genre shifts in the “creative process” aka people pitching her songs since 2019. Originally her “comeback” album was going to be Reggae then it was Hip-Hop then it was Dance music again and now it’s Pop-Rock. Trends move too fast now that her teams process isn’t fast enough anymore so they can’t push her like they used to because she doesn’t want to make a new album every year anymore.

Which is why by the time whatever she makes comes out it’ll be out of touch trend wise or it’ll just simply not do well. But I can bet you my life savings they out Drake, Kendrick and other people on her album to carry it in streams and sales.

She has more streams now because she’s on tour. She has more listeners because she dropped a new song not so long ago. The monthly listeners can stay elevated for a month just because of the way it is calculated. She also had 4th of July increase. It’ll calm down after she’s done touring next month. Trust me.

No. At least not for me because i don't listen to her so it's not even a throwback either

She’s a throwback act because only her catalog songs are remembered and played

Also her last tour relied a lot on nostalgia
