Pitchfork gives CONFESSIONS II an 8.1

Madonna and Gaga are two of my favorite artists of all time but Gaga will never be on Madonna's level for the simple fact that she isn't capable of writing songs as emotionally poten as "Oh Father, "The Power of Goodbye or "Fragile" 

Very this, I feel like Mayhem falls short on the tracklisting and pacing of the album and in certain ways I feel like it misses what Confessions 2 has, which is an overall clear vision, lots of amazing lyricism and an amazing tracklisting. Like even the songs I'm iffy about are amazing in the whole story, wheras with Mayhem I had to work my ass off to bring the best out of the songs by switching around the tracklisting. And I kinda wish Happy mistake and Glam life took the places of The beast and Blade of grass, they really fit the overaching themes of the album better. With Madonna id say she falls short on vocals, wish Stuart punched those grills outta her mouth   idk I hope Gaga will have this passion and hunger for art near her 70s, she can do so much, I just hope she kinda hones in and uses her talents for something as immaculate as C2, COADF or ROL.

See, I think CONFESSIONS II is more cohesive on the whole, but on a song by song basis, I think MAYHEM is the better album (and I say that as someone who loves CII). I’m not sure there are any songs on CONFESSIONS II I would listen to outside of the context of the record, whereas I think basically every song on MAYHEM is good to great as a standalone song.

True, but also the way the songs are mixed you can't really listen to them solo in a way, which is the downside of C2 sadly.  Mayhems highs are much higher indedd (especially Abra, PC, Killah, Disease, Vanish, Zombie ), but as a complete listening experience C2 eats Mayhem up because all the best songs are up front, wheras C2 is perfectly balanced and it winds down perfectly with incredible memorable songs spread evenly.

It’s almost like people have opinions sometimes that may not match yours….
