The rest of the album does feel like she was inspired by her entire discography. Like she goes from Ray of Light and Music to Erotica/Bedtime Stories, a little bit of Madame X / American Life and even MDNA with little winks to her singles from the 80’s in Danceteria. I ultimately feel like it would've been ideal if she'd released it 10 years ago. I'm baffled as to why she waited 20 years to make a sequel when her fans have been crying out for that for so long and when dance was more relevant too. She might even have had a bigger chance of a hit with it back then. Clearly the numbers show that there's still demand for it but it's restricted to her fans whereas the original Confessions pulled in the GP too. Above all, she may have had the physical ability to perform such an album live back then but taking into consideration her age, health and the fact that she was notably slower on stage makes me wonder how a tour for it will look like and if she'll have to rely more on backing dancers and spectacle.

Madonna has always said that she doesn’t like to repeat herself so maybe she wanted to try different things, sounds, producers etc. when she joined Interscope, and now that she’s back with Warner and got together with Stuart Price and had her health issues she felt like she wanted to do it or was inspired to, maybe even felt desperate to make a dance album again, after all she had just done one of her most experimental ones. Confessions 2 is probably some type of damage control mixed with nostalgia. I’m sure she loves the product now but if the previous 3 albums had been massive hits or at least respected works I don’t think she’d be doing this one now.
TheLadyInRed 1,760
It’s an amazing album, easily her best in 20 years after the mess that was MDNA & Madame X. I loved Rebel Heart, but COAD2 is miles ahead. I love her take on this sequel, it feels fresh, modern and varied. I love that some tracks sound like the Erotica/Bedtime stories albums. So far my faves are School, Love Sensation, Bizzare, The Test, Danceteria, Love Without Words. The production is top notch. Album of the summer for me

She’s one of the few artists around I will listen to new material from. Yeah I thought it’s a decent album (3 of 4 stars for me)and am happy for her but it seems it’s the Madonna stans that hold it in the highest regard. Confessions on a Dance Floor to me is easily still stronger

The vocal delivery and lyrics on the song feel very Madame X to me Ngl it feels American Life coded, especially with the vocal distortion and social politics focus The gays know how to party

I think the interscope deal was attractive because it was a 360 deal including touring etc rather than just an album deal. But she was very quickly annoyed by the interference of Interscope in her creative process - and by Rebel Heart & MX wasn't afraid to talk about how annoying it was to be put through writers camps rather than getting to work with hand picked artists from start to finish. https://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/music/news/madonna-instagarm-guy-oseary-ray-of-light-20th-anniversary-songwriting-camps-new-music-2018-a8228916.html The gays know how to party

MDNA was rushed because she was also making a movie, Rebel Heart with the writers camp, but at least she got to make Madame X which seems like an album with 100% creative freedom. Also what a tragedy to have Rebel Heart leak in full months in advance. It could’ve been a fun album if they let her control it more.

PornoDanceFight 1,987
Album tore, and I think I might prefer it as a whole body of work more than COAF I. The way how each of these releases has been hitting at clubs, poolside parties, etc....album of the summer, and dare I say, one of the strongest releases of the year so far (for ME).
