I'd rather be able to play something without wifi than not be able to play it at all just because I don't have  the super Nintendo playstation sony plus subscription to play games offline.

I don't know where people are getting this from. Digital only consoles can still very much play games offline for no additional cost.

It's true in some situations, but when you buy a game digitally they can remove your ability to play at anytime regardless. If this rule goes into action, I don't doubt that'll happen. I play on PC more than I use consoles, which can limit you in some aspects, so that's where my perspective comes from. My bad.

That, and I find it more convenient to be able to boot up a physical with all my data instead. I think it depends on whether or not it needs to be updated.

The PC gaming industry has been digital for years and it's still going strong.

The day the game industry stops selling physical media is the day I stop buying video games. Full stop.

Time. It will not wait, no matter how hard you hold on...

A big difference is, you can effectively copy all the files with a bit of work and transfer them into Zip folders and make them able to be installed elsewhere and play them at anytime. There’s a notorious person from Russia called FitGirl and another called DODI who do them for pretty much every game you can think of.

Sadly that’s going to happen by 2028 so I presume a lot of games next year will go digital only

A couple of things:

1) Digital was promised as a cheaper alternative, as you don't have to pay for a disc. This is not the case, as you can literally get older AAA titles 50% off in some places, while they still charge full price for older titles on their store.

2) What happens when they discontinue stores in the futures? Without a physical copy, all those exclusive titles will become lost media, and no one will be able to play them.

3) With console prices getting more expensive by the minute, why would anyone in their right mind choose consoles over a PC in the future? If everything becomes digital, there would be no reason for you to ever purchase a console. Exclusive titles are a thing, but I don't think they have that much power as they used to, considering how expensive modern consoles are and will eventually get.

Sucks because they literally had a formula that was working. The PS4 era was pretty good, and instead of riding that high, they released a PS5 with products that are yet to release (Wolverine was first teased quite a while ago and is releasing soon).

Well, they're not going to get any of my money then. :cheeky:

As i said before, Sony is notoriously opposed to second hand markets selling their games and have been trying for years to reduce their games to live service models, but developers have pushed back on it. They want maximum control over pricing and they want to maximise profits. Today their share values increased by 3% BECAUSE they said they wanted to get rid of physical media, so their shareholders are clearly happy about that which goes to show you their investors and shareholders come first.

I imagine they'll put all those exclusives up on their store for full price of their original release. I also find consoles are becoming too damn expensive, I also don't believe when people say games are played better on said consoles (like how Rockstar claims GTA6 will play best on the PS) because these games are literally MADE on computers through software ON computers. I'd rather spend £1000+ on a good gaming PC that will cover 3 consoles or more worth of games, than pay £1000 for the PS6 (which i suspect is going to be the price if not almost certainly £800) that will just become defunct a few years later by the PS7.

Exclusive titles don't hold much weight BUT GTA6 not being released on the PC at launch is ridiculous considering their GTA Online communities were massive in 5. The rumours are that they're getting ahead of the curve and making their own servers based on popular servers from 5 (like RolePlay servers were their most active ones) and allegedly they're gonna charge people a subscription to use GTA Online for 6 as well.

Yep the 5 is my last console most likely! If I’m going to buy digital I’m using Steam because why would anyone use any other digital platform

Digital-based media should be a lot cheaper than physical media. If they go through with this BS, the kind thing to do is slash the prices by a fairly large margin. Otherwise, BOYCOTT BOYCOTT BOYCOTT
