Madonna knew Debi Mazar long before that. Check the credits of Like a Virgin (1984) -- IIRC, she's listed as Madonna's makeup artist. And you can see her in the "True Blue" and "Papa Don't Preach" videos (1986). Checking IMDB right now, it says she also was in "Everybody" (1982).

It is banned indoors in public spaces in France. Then again, YSL was giving away branded lighters to guests and the venue was filled with artificial smoke.
