imogen2133 458 Posted 8 hours ago Share Posted 8 hours ago (edited) I just love the Abracadabra video so much and think it is one of the best videos she has ever put out and her touch/influence is clearly seen all over it. I think the Mistress has a really domineering and striking presence and I think Gaga sells it well throughout the video. The ethereal or virginal Gaga's outfit and color being white obviously symbolizes rebirth and purity and some of the dancers have dark eye makeup, look a bit sickly and have bandages on them which represents the wounds and battle of fighting yourself from within and inner struggle and how it could lead to forms of self harm potentially. Also the Mistresses hat is quite spikey showing the rough and ongoing challenge of facing off against your inner demons and how it is a bumpy road to get through it. I think the video also closely resembles the BTW video and I think using the dancing here as a metaphor for and representing resilience actually improved upon that aspect of the BTW video and did it a bit better by giving it more purpose within the context of the song. The theatricality and "big" over the top dance moves add a lot and show perseverance and maintaining strength through inner battle as well. The canes are also a great addition because it shows the Mistress being weakened but still strong and how she will not back down as she challenges the ethereal Gaga. (Could also be a reference to Gaga overcoming her hip injury) The dark background with light coming through the windows also reflects the inner darkness of Gaga's mind but also that there is always hope or a "light at the end of the tunnel". The screaming break part is also brilliant because it shows the pain of having to face yourself and being vulnerable and also ethereal Gaga's strength through the dance battle and how she is surviving through it as she is challenged by the Mistress. This video really builds well off the idea of "dancing through your pain and struggles" introduced in Chromatica and the metaphor is sharp and effective. I think this is one of the best examples of her bringing a song to life through a video and I hope we get more videos like that for LG8.
