World Cup Visitors In USA Finds American Dream In Ranch Dressing & Chain Restaurants

The most delicious trend taking over American social media right now? Watching World Cup fans try American food for the first time,  especially ranch dressing.

A group visiting Texas from Japan raves about the steak and Caesar. A Whataburger pilgrim deems it “the best dining experience of my entire life.” A Buc-cee’s employee obligingly calls, “Brisket on the boooooard” as an English visitor passes by. A Norway fan tries the impossibly Bostonian combo of clam chowder with a Dunkin’ drink on the side. And almost everyone tries Raising Cane’s, because they’ve heard about that sauce.

One of the most-followed accounts is German soccer superfan @FreddyLA7, whose road trip from Georgia to Texas has had people on the edges of their seats, waiting to see his next meal.

He has explored the wonders of Taco Bell, Chili’s, Wendy’s, Chipotle and more. He even braved a Waffle House at the only time that really matters (1 a.m.) although some commenters wonder whether it was truly an authentic experience, as no fights broke out.

There is a definite lean towards large chains instead of local favorites. Some of them are apt to make an American cringe a little bit about our international reputation, like Chipotle five times in a few days, or breakfast at the 7-Eleven rotisserie.

If you consider how much entertainment media consumed in Europe is filmed in America, though, the fun of it might make more sense. When you’ve seen every gritty cop on TV walk into a giant convenience store, maybe going in real life is like Disneyland.

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is issuing a serious warning to international World Cup visitors: Don’t pack ranch dressing in your carry-on luggage.

As the World Cup brings millions of international visitors to the United States, many fans are trying out American staples — and, apparently, rushing to take them back home with them.

One European wrote on X, “Why did no one tell me ranch sauce is like crack? EUROPE WE NEED RANCH ASAP.”

The enthusiasm hasn’t gone unnoticed by U.S. officials.

On June 16 on Instagram, the TSA alluded to international travelers transporting bottles of ranch salad dressing through airport security.

“If you’re visiting for a very large sporting event & you happen to discover RANCH while you’re here … please pack it in your CHECKED BAG on the way home,” the post read.

The post added, “Days since the last airport ranch incident: 0.”

On X, the TSA issued a similar warning and shared a photo of assorted oversized liquids — including a bottle of ranch dressing — next to a sign reminding travelers of the agency’s 3.4-ounce liquid rule.

The ranch craze is just one example of how international visitors have embraced American culture during the World Cup.

Earlier this week, Norwegian soccer fans went viral for performing synchronized “Viking rows” on Boston escalators.

Also in Boston, Scottish World Cup supporters impressed locals after reportedly drinking several bars dry.

The dream just doesn’t get any more American than that.

It's becoming slightly more common due to Brits being exposed to more American tastes but it's never been a thing in the 34 years I've lived here, you would at a push see one brand Newman's own in the salad dressings section. We would more commonly see garlic mayo in place of ranch at food places. Love ranch tho I'm not mad  I do wish we would adopt honey mustard dip with chicken tenders though, that's also not a thing here and again only really a vinegar based salad dressing at most. 

I also think because buttermilk is extremely uncommon here maybe that's why we haven't had it.. even the knock off British brands they sell here are just flavoured mayo and not proper ranch usually.
