Don't think so. Everything changes when streaming and tiktok came. Musicians are relying on merch sales such as vinyl, and concert tickets as their main income now. And yes, physical media are merely treated as merch now, this is why signed version and variants are abundant.

Ari really loves her fan's money the last two weeks. All of her albums getting tour exclusive vinyl, two days later Urban Outfitters release her whole discography as exclusive vinyl and now new petal variants...

But somehow these lenticular covers often seem half-assed... the first one I really like is Olivia's recent cover, because the lenticular pictures actually make her swing

On the other hand: how would you like the following idea for a Mayhem lenticular cover? The picture without the cracks and distortions and the second one the actual cover as we know it. Be looking at the cover from different angels you could actually see the picture cracking and distorting

And it's still not as bad as Billie who releases new overpriced stuffs every month on her merch store to the point she's criticized a lot as performative, since her practices  doesn't get a long on what she preaches
