Please no. If she is doing this, she is definitely type casted

Tbh she already was in Joker. And she needs next big role to be different

After that Oscar nomination and very positive press reception of her role in HOG, I wished she had more varied type of propositions to be real.

I actually loved her in HoG and think she was great at it and playing a character not remotely similar to her, she essentially played a manipulative woman who was obsessed with power and money which is the total opposite of Gaga as a person.

Plus I miss her campy and quirky promotional quotes like 100 people in a room or her claiming to get drunk on non-alcoholic wine or her staying in character even off set and trying to keep the accent in life lol.

I think her roles have been pretty varied. Ally, Patrizia and Harley were all different characters. But that being said I would like her to shy away from musicals for a while.

Unless it’s going to be a Broadway musical made into a film she’d be great for. Like Guys & Dolls.

Tbf, it’s not all that different than variations of her persona we’ve seen elsewhere (see: Paparazzi MV, Telephone MV)

I'd love her to do some horror type of role next. She was soooo good in American Horror Story. Horror is an expending genre for the last few years and some are bending into very deep quality movies.

She could have a great shot there

If Gaga is serious about acting, she needs to do a film where she isn't essentially playing a character you can associate with her stage personality.

She's never going to get the success she wants without breaking the mould yet she continues to pick up the campy/over the top and/or musical roles.

Yes, yes and YES!

She'd have slayed but it's still one of many vibes people associate Gaga with. I'd like her to play some complex lawyer, detective ot sth like this

Yeah but I don’t think the public at large link her to that they link her more to being eccentric. I just don’t think she HAS to play a broken down and “normal” person just to get some form of recognition in acting.

She’s a horror fan so I think she should go do one next, I think horror is having a resurgence now and being recognised as a serious acting pursuit more.

I also suspect after Wicked’s success musical adaptations will make a comeback.  So if she must do a musical I could see her being Adelaide in G&D

I think she needs to do it to be taken seriously as a casting candidate by Hollywood.
I think the Hollywood circle don't take her seriously now she's got a few roles under her belt and they've either been singing roles (ASIB) or over-acted & box-office fails like JFAD/House of Gucci.

Like she could easily do a comedy etc, it doesn't have to be a gritty slice of life film. But she needs a role that breaks her out of the mould she's built for herself if she wants the critically successful film career she appears to be chasing. She needs a Moonstruck/Beaches moment.

I think Hollywood will jump on musicals again because of Wicked, but I think like them jumping on Heated Rivalry with some of the romance shows they've greenlit since they are learning the wrong lesson.

Wicked was successful because it's a well-established and well-loved production (which the film overmilked a little bit by making 2 films and really exposing how weak Act 2 is lol).
Just making musicals off the back of it aren't guaranteed successes. They'd need to be greenlighting existing musicals with established fanbases to drive the buzz for it.
The only shows on Broadway running as long or longer than Wicked are Chicago & The Lion King.

And there's limited newer productions which I think Hollywood would take a risk on.
Book of Mormon would be too politically risky, Lin Miranda is currently blocking a film for Hamilton to an extent.
I'd fully be here for a Hadestown film though, ****ing adore that show. But I would worry a film would ruin the vibe of the show.

I don't want her in another musical nor am I exacted at the prospect of another acting era in general. Based on the three movies we have it just doesn't seem like she's getting great offers unless it's a musical.

enough musicals, they're too risky and her acting career is still fragile

I wish she would diversify more, HoG was fun to see her not bursting into song every 5 minutes

selfishly, I want her in a sci fi horror

mother, what must i do?

I have to say, I've never been a fan of her acting career mostly because I feel I don't think she's always picked the right roles. I hope she stays away from musicals or anything related to Gaga. I think she would be phenomenal in suspense films or thrillers.

If she wants to do a musical performance then please take it to broadway mama, no more musical films for a bit.

Excited for her future acting endeavors regardless.

I think she would eat a President Coin type of role, perhaps a Woman King type, something like Marisa Tomei in My Cousin Vinny

REALITY

Y'all are saying "I want her to have more range and expand her filmography," but then in the next sentence say "She should do horror"...Like, what?? :selena:

Gaga's main brand is that she leans into the alternative, dark, gothic/horror shtick. She literally just did that for MAYHEM, and she's already been in horror (or horror-adjacent) projects. If she really wants to go out of her wheelhouse, she should do a romantic comedy or something.

Personally, I'd rather her do something different than musicals, but I'm also not opposed to that. What she really needs is a good script and direction. ASIB is by far and away her best movie, and that was a musical.

I also think her mindset might've changed regarding how she tackles acting. I feel like in the beginning, she was extremely keen on being taken as a "serious" actor, and while that got her her first Oscar nom (which I feel like isn't talked about enough cause that's huge), I think people were turned off by the way she approached it. The ASIB press tour was memed to death, and the entirety of HoG was bad (both talking about the movie and the press run). She lightened up with Joker, and after the abysmal reaction that film got, I think she's taken a "f*ck it, I'm just gonna do what I think interests me or is fun" approach ever since. That's what got her Wednesday and Devil Wears Prada.

I'm all in for her acting career because I'm equally a fan of TV and film as much as music. I just hope she picks the right projects, no matter what style or genre they are. But tbf, on paper, HoG and Joker seemed excellent; she was just extremely unlucky imo.
