No! This is an amazing, critically acclaimed album! And besides which, it really only matters if you love it, the GGD users all have their own opinions but it shouldn’t lessen your excitement! If it helps at all, I truly love this album and think it’s deserving of AOTY. It’s amazing. There’s nothing wrong with hearing people’s points of view but don’t let naysayers ruin your own mood! StrawberryBlond 15,566
I'm sorry to say that I was very disappointed with this. I knew there were warning signs when I didn't like the first two singles, thought Stupid Song was ok and Begged was the only one I loved. So, I only liked 3 songs - Stupid Song, Honeybee and Begged. The first 2 were just ok and Begged is one of the finest songs she's ever made. So only one amazing song, basically. Everything else was below par or mediocre. After her first 2 albums, I thought she was going to get better but not only does this seem like a retread, it's a weaker version of what she did before. Respectfully, I don't know what fans and critics are going bananas over. But they're probably bamboozled as to why I'm disappointed when they think it sounds no different to her previous work that I liked. I'm clearly in the minority here. It's an awkward feeling when something you don't like is a success because that creates positive reinforcement and the artist will probably create something similar next time. This is the second album in a row that let me down. I'm really hoping the next delivers.
StrawberryBlond 15,566
I also want to say that her diction really annoyed me throughout. Her occasional Californian vocal fry ends quite a few lines and it gets grating. So many have raved about her vocals this time but I'm not hearing it. I haven't listened to that album yet but apparently has been well received and could take Pop Vocal and even Album of the Year. I hate when they do that. Really young artists tend not to create their best work with their debut. I commonly prefer their second album more but most of the time, Grammys bestow a boatload of awards on them and then totally bypass their second superior album. Billie's Happier Than Ever and Olivia's Guts are their best albums, in my opinion and not only did the Grammys pay them dust but the public seem to have wholly moved on from them too. It's an issue they really need to fix. As for Olivia Dean, I haven't listened to her album in full but I did listen to her singles and I have to say, she's outrageously bland. I think she stands out because she's doing something really different with her classically feminine, modest style and throwback music. I don't get what the public see. At all. The song she did with Sam Fender is tied with Alex Warren's Ordinary with 13 weeks at #1 in the UK and it's the most below average, mediocre song imaginable. I'm used to every couple of years, we have a big British breakout that gets all the plaudits and then we move on from them just as quick, so I wait to see if they get any better first.
