Gaga still shares our same obsession with fame

I know this thread may be controversial considering we are a bunch of fans who are used to obsessively defending a pop star, and for those of you on this site who love Michael, please don’t hate me or take this personally. I just finished watching the Michael Jackson documentary on Netflix and I can’t help but find Gaga’s obsession with Michael, despite all his faults, akin to our obsession with Gaga. Now Gaga has obviously not been accused of heinous crimes, but the fact that she continues to worship and idolize a man, despite longstanding accusations against him, makes me in a weird way remember that Gaga is still a human and still more like us than we think. Yes, she is older and more private and makes less public appearances than she used to, but at her core she’s still that young girl from the upper west side who is obsessed with pop culture, superstardom, and “the fame”, just like us. At times I think to myself, I’m getting too old to worship her and that she no longer wants us to dissect or analyze her craft, but watching the documentary on Michael made me realize that her obsession with him and his superstardom still persists to this day (as evidenced by Shadow of a Man) and is perhaps a continuity in our collective obsession with fame despite us growing older and our better senses or societal expectations telling us to grow up and move on with our pop star obsessions.

The new one? The one that PMO 'cause it literally has no new information in it, they just can't help but capitalize on his new peak? :rip:

Of course she's obsessed, dude was an icon and she's obviously intelligent enough to understand the allegations were false.

I have my reservations, but I don't want to be banned by a gold moderator, so I won't say.

That said I enjoy his music and love Shadow of a Man. He was truly iconic and talented, but I choose to separate the art from the artist.

Good post.

But in general it's not necessarily a bad thing if one doesn't lose part of their inner child.  This is one of my all time favorite songs because it represents just that.  That innocent childhood curiosity if you will

Guess my point being with Gaga if she can still get that childlike feeling by enjoying MJ as an entertainer kind of thing.

I was at the BTWB in Sydney where she told the story of how she took a nap and woke up while her friend was watching a michael jackson movie from the 80's, and watched for a few minutes before remembering she was lady gaga. Then basically talked about how cool it was for her because she remembered watching that movie as a kid and wanting to be famous.

Idk why that story/moment in the concert (she was singing hair) is so engrained in my mind but I think it kinda shows how much she loved MJ and how much influence he had on her

I wonder if she just doesn't believe the rumors and think that he was just very pure and innocent and didn't have pervert thoughts, it's a tough subject. I can't accept that she would get along with the fact that he's a p#dophile, that would be too much for me
