At a moment in history defined by political polarisation and wealth disparity, understanding others’ humanity, and treating them accordingly, is rare but critical. It's refreshing to hear a pop star hype sustainable consumption/materialism as more inherently more authentic and valuable than unsustainable materialism/consumerism.

Also: I saw her at LA Night 1 and wow...what a voice and what a banger crowd. So happy for the year she's having.

Newer and younger artists always have these kind of idealism, which is cool. 

But usually when reality hits, they will likely settle for better.

Fortunately, I’m old enough to know the difference between what’s authentic and what’s merely strategic marketing. There’s so much strategic marketing these days. She only says these things because they are socially desirable - to make herself appear more attractive and morally superior.

Her words lack substance.

In videos like "Hollywood," she glamorizes luxury, even walking out of a designer store with an XXL bag. She claims it’s satire, now also says she views luxury with skepticism. That’s all just cheap talk, because she has actively promoted the image of luxury as something to aspire to. Her videos garner millions of views, fueling and celebrating a consumerist lifestyle and she profits financially from it.

She reminds me of those stars who say, "Oh, it's so terrible how high rents are and how hard it is for poor people to find an apartment," and then own three homes ranging from Hawaii to the East Coast.

Then, she distances herself with a few words in an interview, words that carry nowhere near the weight of her actual actions. Her music is fantastic, but I won’t let myself be taken in by her.

We need to differentiate between HAVING luxury items and FLAUNTING luxury items. One shows discreet taste...the other lacks social awareness. I would know since my business is in the luxury space...

I do agree with her that bragging about how much money you have, your luxurious lifestyle, or how expensive something was is beyond cringe and reeks of desperation. I prefer quiet luxury and I'm not into loud logos the way some people are...

I agree that mindlessly buying luxury items purely because they're luxury and are highly sought after even if you don't actually like them is a problem. But if you genuinely want this stuff and can afford it, it's fine. And I think she's exaggerating the secondhand comment a lot. What's cool about owning a used item that's been worn down and looks bad? It's probably going to completely fall apart after you've bought it before too long. It looks as if you could afford it once but can't anymore but are desperately holding onto it or are just too cheap to buy a replacement. Buying secondhand is fair enough but buy secondhand that's been well-preserved. If you bought a tatty item, they ripped you off. Brand new looks and feels amazing. Not to say you should do this all the time but replace as and when you need to. Damaged items are only aesthetic for magazine shoots, not in day to day life. In photoshoots, it looks edgy. In real life, it just looks sad.

I don't understand why people ask for celebrities to represent working class people, and then when they do it they push them away because "oh they are being too out of touch" when all they did is give the support that was asked for.
