Evanescence has released their sixth studio album, 'Sanctuary'. it is written and performed predominantly by the band (with new bassist Emma Anzai) and produced by Zakk Cervini, Nick Raskulinecz and Jordan Fish.

this album drills down the quintessential Evanescence symphonic nu metal rock sound, modernised with progressive arrangements and a consistent electro-industrial production style across the tracklist, plus some classic Amy piano ballads. Imo it's most similar to their self-titled, with some Fallen nostalgiacore: heads and shoulders above The Bitter Truth imo, partly due to the immaculate mixing on this one

the only let down is the atrocious cover for me which I will be changing immediately on Apple Music

Amy's ****ing pissed. Very aggresive and strong album, they are not playing this time.

My fave song, I live the epic but unsettling atmosphere.

Sanctuary is an album that doesn't sound consistent with a cohesive identity, sometimes some lyrics are just repeated over and over, there's a hyperpop moment on one of the tracks that I can't remember, there is yet again another 60% off discount My Immortal (How Do I Heal) and now even a sequel to Better Without You (Forever Without You) where I get the impression that Amy is still seething about Ben Moody leaving the band and not agreeing with everything that she thought and did at the time back then. Sanctuary is yet another disappointing and boring album outside of the very good singles (Afterlife and Who Will You Follow) this time which is an improvement over much of the previous singles catalog except What You Want but it's obvious that those two being the best tracks is why they were chosen as singles. 5/10 just listen to Fallen forever. Tourniquet supremacy.
