I’d imagine it was more for her new fans because she probably noticed a shift in her fans reactions. Because a lot of people became Charli fans during Brat and don’t really understand her as an artist yet so this is her way of just saying “for anyone new I just do what I want”. Obviously I can’t say for definite that is what it is, but as a long time fan she got over the idea of being a big famous star years ago. Some pop fans who discovered her are used to artists changing things based on fan reaction all the time, but she just doesn’t.
 

Crash was an album purposely built to be a successful pop album hence songs like Used to Know Me (that sampled Show Me Love and had a radio friendly sound and feel) and it didn’t work so she has just said “f*ck it” ironically Brat was the first album she hadn’t made for a bit with the idea of a pop audience in mind. Not including her mixtapes or side projects ofc.  Brat was made to be her interpretation of a club album. 365 alone is how a night out in a  mega club feels to her for example.

Just to set the record straight: I am not a Charli hater

Nor am I immune to enjoying good music. If there are worthy bops on her new album, best believe I will be dancing to them at a Denmark rave with  A D A M, RaveMonster, Gagzus &  littlepotter

My original comment was not intended to discredit BRAT, but moreso to point out that Charli's new tiktok video seems like she is trying to preemptively save face, because she knows she is not going to match the same level of cultural dominance this time around.

I think you’re mixing popularity with quality/acclaim.

Brat did ended up becoming popular because of the aesthetic but the album was acclaimed by pop music fans and critics before it became a cultural phenomenon. The music clearly had its own merit to many, maybe not you but many clearly thought the album was great considering it has a very good score on all platforms.

The critical acclaim and reaction from fans to these last two singles have not been similar at all to the reaction 360 and Von Dutch got, which by the way were not really hits when they first came out

You can disagree with people praising Brat but you can’t deny the acclaim wasn’t real. The album received so much praise before any memes happened.

I love Charli because she literally does her own thing. She definitely craves success and chart topping but it’s not absolutely a must for her and she doesn’t sacrifice being genuine for it. I respect that and have been a fan since 2012. It’s absolutely insane how many different aesthetics and sounds she’s explored. A true visionary. 

Also, I just want to put it out here that Brat is an objectively amazing album, one of the best dance records of the past decade easily.

Some of the takes in this thread are triggering me
