Marriage equality is still something not many disabled people in the US are able to experience. If you have SSI which many have to be on due to the minimal payments and strict requirements for SSDI, you get an asset limit of $2000 or $3000 combined with your partner. $3000 in assets combined in this day and age is not enough to live off of and if you go over it by even a dollar you risk losing insurance coverage and the little stability you had. The situation in Canada with MAID is another one.
