There's nothing really safe about an artist that built their career on explosive pop music and sexy trap sounds moving towards a more melancholy/pensive sound imo. Ariana has always had this sort of music in her albums though, including Best Mistake on Yours Truly.

I feel like there’s a paid narrative happening on twitter rn. Every time I refresh my feed there are tweets from big accounts expressing disappointment for the song. We already know large accounts are paid to spread sentiments and start trends. Just seems odd that there are so many saying the same thing. 
 

anyway, I like the song. It’s not a mega banger like she usually releases, but it’s still a nice song.
