How Would You Describe Gaga As An Artist Now?

Id call her an artist and a tastemaker.

Because, what people criticise her for nowadays like “oh she doesn’t wear avant clothing anymore” or “oh she doesn’t take risks anymore” that’s literally because she popularised everything she does now and it’s no longer new and risky because everyone now has better stylists, runway archival fashion, makes more experimental electronic music in the pop sphere.

Brat would never have been even a cultural phenomenon without albums like The Fame and ARTPOP all those years ago, Gaga even knew what was coming because she worked with SOPHIE before she died on an unreleased track from Chromatica. She made a whole House influenced album inspired by trans and black creators (she even said so in interviews) before Renaissance was even an idea in Beyoncé’s (teams) head. She’s always ahead of the curve.

Even Mayhem having Pop-Rock as musicians are slowly moving back into the Rock sphere.

Shes also cited by many fashion houses as literally the reason celebrities are allowed runway fashion either be it from current runways or archival because of her and McQueen, Daphne, Philip and Isabella’s faith in her during late The Fame/early The Fame Monster era.

She popularised dance music on radio again after a decade of stripped back r&b and pop-rock music, she made being famous and being an unrelatable celebrity cool again, and she revived disco four-on-the-floor. Shes literally credited as the reason people like David Guetta and Calvin Harris even got airplay in the US after spending a year and a half touring promoting and celebrating electronic music. She popularised European pop culture of camp, dance and theatricality in the US.

She also revived fandom culture and paved way for online fandom culture in the early days of Twitter. GagaDaily is one of the last standing fan run sites besides BreatheHeavy because now everyone’s got Official Fan Accounts ran by their teams like Taylor, Sabrina and Olivia.

All of this is just considered normal by many younger fans now, to them it’s literally just her regular stage and promo cycle outfits, the Met Gala happens every year and everybody is pulling archival avant fashion from people like Galliano. She’s made the taste of what makes a popstar in the decades after her.

And this is a hill i‘ll die on.

I think it’s a part of her legacy people often underestimate. Without her there’s no “Titanium” or “We Found Love”, there’s no “360” or “On The Floor”. If she never made The Fame and made what Def Jam was pushing her to (R&B/Hip-Hop music)— she’d have not lasted.

Thank god they heard the LoveGame demo and hated it and dropped her.

Where was this said/cited? I'm not saying it isn't true and I am aware that Gaga popularized dance/electronic music but where was this specifically said?, I'm curious

I can’t remember the exact person’s name but I remember it was a respected EDM DJ back in like 2015 I think. I’ll have a look for the source

But now, Michael is investing most of the money and interscope only need to publish and do some promo, she has full control on her creativity and with Mayhem we saw what she's really capable of.

I'm genuinely asking and not meaning to be condescending but is it a proven fact that Michael is investing in her music or just speculation? If it's just speculation can't all of this just be traced back to the launch of HL and also her broadening into acting? She's been leveraging her brand more since about 2018 and we saw her record deal get restructured through addendums in 2018 so I feel like she might have had more control since then but didn't have it in her to exercise that control until post-Chromatica/Michael.

he's the executive producer of every project since Harlequin, and executive producer means that he's the boss and investor of the projects, but he's not doing it from his own pocket, but through Lil Monsters LLC along with Gaga.

I'm not saying you're blatantly wrong because it's quite possible but exec producer credits are given for people involved in the creative process as well. I think it very well could be that he's fronting a lot of her projects though, but knowing Gaga she's always been very generous in her crediting.

In general executive producers don't have to be part of the creative process and they still get the credit, executive producer is a business, financial, or administrative role rather than a creative one.

But Michael has been part of the creative process as well, like we see in the BTS video of Requiem, or by his writing credits on Mayhem.
