Here’s my personal list of Lady Gaga songs whose lyrics I relate to the most:

cause when you killed me inside, that’s when I came alive.” This song came into my life right during a breakup.

- disease: the part where she says “you reach out and no one’s there, like a god without a prayer” hits me hard.

- perfect celebrity: "I've become a notorious being. Find my clone she's asleep on the ceiling now"

- lovedrug: t perfectly describes my relationship with myself; I don’t want to cry anymore, I just want a dose of love.

- 911: “Wish I laughed and kept the good friendships.”

- alice: Sick and tired of waking up
Screaming at the top of my lungs

- stupid love: 'cause all i ever wanted was love

- replay: The scars on my mind are on replay

"I'd do anything to numb the flame, I guess I'm just on fire these days" had me on my knees the first time I heard it because it was covid and I had just started relapsing with painkillers (I'm fine and sober from them now lol) and the song overall just really spoke to how I felt during that time and during the times of bad addiction.

 

"Love is like a brick you can build a house or sink a dead body" gets more relatable the older I get and still try and navigate love. 

 

"My heart is in a bind if I could bear it on my own, I wouldn't try so hard to numb what's left behind" Is another line I love so much and speaks more or less to kinda why I love Fun Tonight... I kind of see those two songs being similar and LoveDrug is the surface of the party while Fun Tonight explains why a bitch is going so hard

I wouldn't be able to tell one, really

Cause depending on my mood/current situation, random lyrics suddenly make sense to me, or lyrics that used to make sense don't anymore in that context

I'm not one to stick to what the artist actually says, the lyrics mean whatever my mind chooses

For exemple, I currently feel that Disease is about pedophilia and how some adults used to “play the doctor” with me. When she makes that weird “aaarrrrhhh” sound at the end of the bridge, I always picture my current self making my child self suffocate with his head in a plastic bag, I interpret it as me protecting my past self from years of trauma

Not that anyone cares about that stuff but it's just one of the many exemples I have to kinda show how I relate to her music. It's not necessarily literal.

The whole of Speechless. I still can’t listen to it without crying. It reminds me of my best friend that I lost to drug addiction, it’s insane that she managed to replicate every single word somehow. James Dean glossy eyes, tight jeans, long hair, cigarette stained lies. Couldn’t fix him when he broke. Still keeps me awake at night.

Oh Speechless, you timeless classic...this speaks more to my youth than it does my present, and while the lyrics and metaphors bounce between Joe and Luc, this spoke to the pathos of my relationship with my father who (I thought) would disown me for being gay, as well as to some of my earliest experiences with trash men. It's now taken on a spirit of friendships that have come and gone, but that insecure teenage boy still wrestles with the trauma of growing up in a world that seemed unable to accept him as he finds solace in men and the bottom of a bottle.

"I'm gonna lace up my boots / throw on some leather and cruise / down the street that I love / in my fishnet gloves / I'm a sinner / then I'll go down to the bar / but I won't cry anymore / I'll hold my whiskey up high / kiss the bartender twice / I'm a loser / I'm gonna Marry the Night." Sometimes all I need to get out of a funk is to go down to my local gay bar, have a whiskey or three, and flirt about; however, that doesn't mean that I won't fall back to my negative thoughts by the night's end.

I love the spirit of Dylan Thomas' poem "Do not go gentle into that good night" throughout Born This Way, and this verse really speaks to the idea of raging (literally and figuratively) against living passively or living my life based on other expectations of how I should live.

The Little Monstrosities hate this feminist shine theory anthem, but this is how me and my girlfriends love and take care of each other through thick and thin. There is something so beautiful about being with friends after so many years (I've known almost all my friends since we were in middle school), and the love that we have for each other in our 30s is even more palpable during moments of intense emotional, physical, and (occasional!) intoxicated vulnerability.

Oh my inner saboteur...I've had these same thoughts about past lovers, but at the end of the day: this might be the most honest feeling I have about myself at times. We love to drag Fun Tonight, but I've had this conversation sober with myself when I am struggling with work, finances, etc., I've had this conversation drunk with myself in a mirror wondering why and how "it all went wrong"...sometimes it's too painful of a song to listen to because I feel like at my crux, I sit so (un)comfortably there...

Clearly, this speaks to my anxiety-induced panic attacks lmao.

Again, speaking to my anxiety, especially the anxiety following a night out full of bad decisions and my own self-inflicted inability to fall asleep due to me trying to run away from such demons. Mistress Mayhem looooooves to party with me and then make me feel bad with the following day's hangxiety.

"Do you see me? Do you see me now? / I've been waiting for you, cryin' out / Do you see me? Do you see me now? / Saw your face and mine / In a picture by our bedside / It was cold in the summertime / We were happy just to be alive / Can I vanish into you?" Both an emotional plea to my lovely partner, my friends, and just to some greater force out there (read: love) in which to find comfort and solace.
