Omg I thought it was facetious!! Lmao my b; yes, add more! I just like to give the full context to why I relate to her lyrics, and I feel like a few lines don’t always convey how deeply I relate to them. Hence my whole mini essay lollll.

No worries queen! English is not my native tongue so things get a little funny sometimes.

I really appreciate your insights because it's lovely to see how a single song can convey so many different meanings and all of them are amusing in their own way (like for example hey girl is a sapphic anthem #tome)

I will give this more thought to come back with a proper response later bc for today my brain has had enough this is it's prayer :holdmyhand:

I don't believe in the glorification of murder, I do believe in the empowerment of women

"I need you to listen to me

Please, believe me

I'm completely lonely

Please, don't judge me

When your tears are falling

I'll catch them as they fall"

It is indeed cheesy, but 1000 doves helped me a lot during the covid-19. Thanks gaga.

"Help me, hold my hair back

Walk me home, 'cause I can't find a cab

And we dance down the Bowery

Held hands like we were 17 again"

Hey Girl sums my friendship with my friend Andrely, she's very active here and simply an angel. We always try to sing this song at the karaoke

I could play the doctor
I can cure your disease
If you were a sinner
I could make you believe
….

You're so tortured when you sleep
Plagued with all your memories
You reach out and no one's there
Like a god without a prayer

You’re making me tear up :kara:

I appreciate your levity and how you are both so earnest and also so incredibly hysterical in each thread I see you post in!

I think there’s definitely so much room in art to take the artist’s original meaning and intent but also take the subtext into our own interpretation to resonate on a deeper, spiritual level. The degree of separation between “Hey Girl” being about supporting female friendships/empowerment and sapphic empowerment is like a centimeter, and that is the power of her work and art!

Take your time; I’d love to see which lyrics resonate with you most, and especially from a sapphic perspective! I think so many of her songs are intentionally (and unintentionally) about sapphic attraction and even her songs about tapping into a “feminine divine” as it were are obviously so sapphic coded that it’s impossible to not have that connection to her work.

i can’t see straight

i can’t see me

there’s too much hurt, caught in between

wish i could be, what i know i am

this moment’s highjacked my plans

lift me up, give me a start

cuz I’ve been flying with some broken arms

Lift me up, just a small nudge

and I’ll be flying like a thousand doves 🕊️

I'm walking downtown, hear my sound
No-one knows me yet, not right now
But I'm 'bout to set
This feeling, in motion
I walk the downtown, hear my sound

I see that I want it, want it (Be free)
Don't fight it, fight it
But if I'm gonna go for it
(I remember that, that I)
I see that I want it, want it (Be free)
Don't fight it, fight it
But if I'm gonna go for it
(I remember that, that I)

I'm not nothing without a steady hand (Hand)
I'm not nothing unless I know I can
I'm still something if I don't got a man
I'm a free woman
Oh-oh (Be free)

(Oh, yeah)

(Be free)

This is my dancefloor I fought for
Ain't hard, that's what I'm livin' for
So light up my body
And kiss me too heartily
We own the downtown, hear our sound

I see that I want it, want it (Be free)
Don't fight it, fight it
But if I'm gonna go for it
(I remember that, that I)
I see that I want it, want it (Be free)
Don't fight it, fight it
But if I'm gonna go for it

I'm a free woman (Ooh)
Oh-oh (Be free)

i am a free woman. ○●

The entire chorus of Brooklyn Nights wrecks me to this very day, it’s one of her best songs because there’s no metaphors.

In my last relationship the “I can’t watch us bleed to death” hits very hard.

And “I don’t wanna fade into darkness tonight, I don’t wanna be the one to fall on the knife” teaches me to not shrink myself for other people anymore.
