So the phrase is singled out, given emphasis, she's trying to sound sarcastic, scathing, about the use of that phrase, that word, in those circumstances. She sings the song in two halves, kind of understated in the first half and then she wheels out the heavy artillery in the second half (you can see that guy start to go down the steps because he thinks she's finished and then he has to scurry back up when she starts thumping the keys again). People is a skinny kind of word when you pronounce it normally, so I think she has to broaden it out to allow her to give it some welly.
