Even so, Reznor is now credited as songwriter. He produced and wrote the lyrics of Closer. Isn't it clear they are only crediting him for the lyrics? Why not both?

 I have no idea tbh 

He’s listed as a producer too on the OG track so maybe crediting the track’s biggest contributor was sufficient?

I think it’s a nice gesture, but is arguably not required because it’s a one off-call out/reference and not meaningfully integrated into bulk of the song. Probably safer and more ethical to do it, tho.

In this case, songwriter is the correct credit. He is neither a performer nor a producer of the song being performed (in this case, Killah). He’s credited as a songwriter of the material that is being referenced.
