Laxy

I hate the style of video he used to share this information where they just film him walking around nowhere talking with his hands. Love him, though. And **** yes. His successes demonstrating progressive politics can be successful give AOC a better shot at whatever she does next.

Zohran Mamdani has officially gotten the NYC budget deficit down to $0.00. The deficit was initially at ~12 billion dollars. He got it to zero in five months, and without cutting any social services or welfare programs.

See how not hard it is to do this? I just know the people who said NYC was "going to learn the hard way for electing him" are FUMING. :billie:

It’s balancing the budget, basically. So he cut wasteful spending, reallocated money to social programs etc

Sure, but negotiating influx of revenue with the governor is a valid means of balancing the budget

I suppose thats fair...

Still tho. In the broader context of debates on style of governance and what some are saying they wish more politicians were like him... then ur still talking a transfer from 1 level of government to another. So a portion of that ($4B if im not mistaken) is not pure savings or new tax revenue. Its reallocation from One level of New Yorkers tax payers government to another level they are still are subject to. If NY or Federal leaders were like him in this context, you could no longer rely on Government level re-allocations on a net basis

I still support the general idea of more taxation on the rich as I have made clear many many times so im not against most of his ideals or trying to put him down. But i also like to be fair and point out details that may be missed or not given enough attention

I mean, NYC generates roughly $68B in tax revenue for New York State annually. The city getting 5% of that back to support infrastructure and social programs is neither unreasonable nor inherently unsustainable. And being able to negotiate that as a form of reappropriation of taxes already generated by NYC is probably a solid investment for the state if Mamdani’s policies ultimately help stabilize the city’s finances and expand long-term economic growth and revenue generation.
