Which to me is so weird because writing credits are for lyricism not melodic structure, melodic structure is to do with composition and to a degree production, BUT composers and producers get less money than writers nowadays. So she probably makes more money for that.

Its a result of the Marvin Gaye estate legal case over Blurred Lines (I think it was that song). 
The legal decision in that is what led to the flurry of legal cases over similar things about "chord progressions" etc - I assume Olivia's team rolled over so quickly back in the day because it was her first album and she didn't have the label backing compared to Ed Sheeran's successully fighting off a similar legal claim in court a few years back.

yeah that and the fact she knew Taylor personally i think, chord progression based cases make my brain shake because there's only 12 chords in general in music and there's only so many chord progressions that can be made before one becomes similar. Charlie Puth did an entire music theory video on it online too about how people get around it legally. thank god Madonna didn't do this back in 2012 for the 3 notes that Gaga sings that are the same.

Apparently, Olivia took inspiration for her song Deja Vu to shout in the bridge from Taylor Swift's song Cruel Summer, and Olivia apparently admitting this on-video caused (something) to happen where she had to give Taylor royalties and/or writing credits.

(edit: I'm not sure if Olivia gave credits on her own, or if Taylor sued her.)

The funny part is that... well... skip to 0:48 in this song and then listen to Cruel Summer.
