You’ve made me rethink as I’ve been conceptualizing. I’ll admit- I’ve always harbored the notion that there are pieces of this “exhumation” or unburial you speak of that still persist within the theory that MAYHEM is this “original LG5”, see Perfect Celebrity- or Can’t Stop The High…. In my head it was always the story of the pop star who didn’t come back. The swallowing something in the desert idea was just something I’ve always imagined since the debut of these interludes… I really thought she was about to 180 from Joanne right back into this “zombified” version of her previous incarnations. And yes…. It does have great credence to have been “brought it life” by MAYHEM. But I felt this was so far removed from the original story we never really knew….. Thematically speaking, there are allusions to mind altering substances and the like, but it’s all to say you cannot keep your true self contained. The metamorphosis theme was also alluded to in many of the interviews she gave amidst this “interlude era”. And they always felt allusive, and like they held weight in regards to where the music was going. So I decided to heavily tie that in. Diagnosis really feels like the penultimate track here, and some finishing touches I’ve applied here and there are fragments of Dr Calligari, Frankenstein, Boys Noize samples, and much more that felt like world building in the best way. I’ll admit- at a certain point , it’s started to feel like I’m digging up this music from the desert- under the moon- myself. on that note, as I’ve been finalizing some tracks and sequencing, here is the tracklist I’ve decided to settle on. There is a running theme of evolution, and being too far gone, with Butterfly kind of serving as the final track before curtain call. The songs in the first 5 on are more hedonistic with a switch up occurring around 4/5 into the more sentimental songs… then around 10 there is a sort of acceptance of fate… with the last 3 tracks sort of serving as the comedown. Meta feels like the perfect song credits would roll to. 01. Diagnosis 02. #B2BB 03. Daydreaminginthedark 04. Frankensteined 05. Mustang 06. Human/Engine 07. Poison 08. Losing Control 09. Vampire 10. Rhino 11. Everythingisgettingbetter 12. Parasites 13. Chaos Angel 14. Butterfly 15. Metamorphosis all of the most recent/updated versions of these tracks are up on the SoundCloud. I’ve held off on immediately posting new uploads here because there is a sort of post-c*m clarity that hits when they are finally up. Beautiful watershed introspection … all of this feels like it‘s falling into frame … admittedly, my vantage is a bit novice nascent in relation to the OG LG5 lineage backstory (ex. TiL: the Mayhem / original LG5 revisited theory; metamorphosic allusions circa interlude era interviews; etc.) … Perfect Celebrity at The Mayhem Ball, for instance though, encapsulates your exhumation / unburial / pop starchaeological excavation station vision with stark clarity … the metamorphosis framework feels absolutely central across the creative identity of the project (the soundcloud handle alone as progenitor / authorial source) … “but it’s all to say you cannot keep your true self contained:” that‘s the cosmic viscera … the mixed media narrative sampling is signature to the story world build, the canon cadence navigates compass transit / subtext calibration in the best way … “I’ll admit- at a certain point , it’s started to feel like I’m digging up this music from the desert- under the moon- myself,” the nocturnal nativity of lunar exhume, where all that was dealt in darkness is defined in light … The distillation on the tracklist is quite wonderful … admittedly embryonic salt grain musing on the first blush scaffolding … but it reads somewhat akin to, to your point … a cryptid metamorphosis … CHIP cryptid metamorphosis adds a certain contemporaneous note (CHIP the author, CHIP the cultural indicator of 21st century digital world denizens—aught pop stars in particular) … the triptych echoes a bit of an evolutionary progression that just felt: prison chrysalis, scarab, monarch … maybe on account of just, honestly stream-of-consciousness symbolic association with the alchemy of self-transformation … within that scope you present … against the backdrop of the desert … The tracks I‘ve heard so far sound clean … just endemic verve … and bricolage but embodied … unstructured on the surface but a surgical precision pulsing somewhere from the generative nexus … looking forward to giving the records a spin in their new sequence As always, not sure if any of this made a hint of sense, but so it is and here we are in the niche creative unconscious incubation station all the same … top-line though, just, bonafide world build … it really is an experience to immerse
