They already struggle to control the various factions within the Senate & House caucuses with Trump as a unifying leader, remove the one thing they unite around/act fearful of and we'd be looking at the chaos of the GOP that existed under John Boehner when the Freedom caucus was created. The Democrats' future is for the divide to widen more between the voters and the party establishment. There's a reason the Dems have a -5% approval rating among the electorate despite their voters making up the majority of the electorate. Until corporate money, including groups like AIPAC, is gone and working class concerns are addressed via both campaigns AND policies, the Dems will continue to struggle to win elections. The Republicans' future is a little weirder 'cause the divide is actually within the base itself. MAGA will always be loyal to Trump but Trump won't always be around. After he's gone, their fanaticism will largely wane (though any candidate that jerks off Trump's ghost will get a boon from them) and they'll default to one of two groups: Classic Republicans still exist and they hate Trump. They're a small group but they're also the voters that are currently pushing +10% Democrat margins of victory into +20% margins across the country either by defecting to the Democratic candidate or deciding to stay home because they're so disillusioned with their party. Not a reliable base for the Dems 'cause they'll sprint to a Romney or Rubio type in a heartbeat but they HATE Trump, Vance, and the other freaks. America First voters are the MAGA-lites that have turned on Trump due to his actions. They're not so blinded by some zealot styles worship of the guy that they can't see us burning billions in foreign wars and paying $2+ more per gallon for gas than we used to just a few months ago. This is the group that people like Tucker Carlson, MTG, and the like are leaders for. The cool thing is both groups hate Vance. He pissed off Republicans by capitulating to MAGA and he pissed off America First by supporting foreign intervention. MAGA itself only tolerates him because of his proximity to Trump as a scapegoat. "I can't fail, I can only be failed" is Trump's motto and MAGA is right there to throw Vance under that bus whenever they need to. So, I guess the tl;dr is that Dems have an enthusiasm problem stemming from the fact that we have a party leadership problem. Republicans are pretty fractured and while they'll fall in line for a general election, their candidate quality suffers from the lingering Trump stink and will never be as high as it was when they were picking folks like Romney, McCain, or Bush...and that's a scarily low f*cking bar. The real question is what kind of American right wing is going to replace MAGA? I don't see things moving back to the pro Israel old school conservatives. Commentators like Tucker Carlson, Candace Owens, Nick Fuentes and Megyn Kelly have sensed which way the wind is blowing and MAGA is currently being replaced by the idea of "America First" aka no more support for Israel. Honestly Candace has really impressed me as of late, she did a 270 shift in beliefs/content if not a 360. Most of her wants/needs are aligned with most democrats and she flames Trump, Israel and calls out the Maga **** like no one else. She’s one of the biggest and most convincing voices out there right now against Maga bs like turning point and trump’s agenda. Many republicans respect her and are starting to share her beliefs. She’s basically coming from the humanity first pov due to her christian values, and if the republican side develops into that the world will be in a better place imo.
