I also will always think, aside from pop show style performances, that live vocals are going to sound better than canned studio vocals, so that’s just a preference tbh. Singing with fully live instrumentation (no playback, no studio instruments) and studio backing vocals both sounds corny and, imo, is never well mixed either because the room tone in the live setting isn’t usually calibrated to the engineering of the studio vocals, so it usually sounds off, imo. The backing vocals in this clip sound flat and one dimensional stacked against the live vocal and creates an unpleasant contrast, tbh. To each their own, but I’m personally not a fan of that set up.
