I just always assumed it'd be because the replacement for the music of my teen years would be creative & inventive in ways I just didn't get. Instead i just hate modern top 40 pop because of its banality. The gays know how to party

That's so true though, I think this is the first time in the last maybe... five years or so that an album has WOW'D people or something like that. Everything feels empty and sad, I think the most life I've felt in recent music WAS Mayhem, with a couple dashes of Chappell and Doechii here and there- otherwise everything just doesn't land. I like SOME songs, and some artists like RAYE are definitely taking a lead! But in reality I look at the top 100 global and realize I've listened to 15 songs off the whole list, some without consent. (I'm looking at the retail store I work at. I can count the amount of times I've heard Taylor Shwift and I SHOULDN'T BE ABLE TO. ) And even sadder that there's maybe 5 of them I enjoy. Creativity died after 2016-2018, I'm in all genre circles and even the metal I hear doesn't hit as hard as it did in the mid 2000s. I don't want jaw dropping stunning gagging visuals every show, but like I want a damn show!!!!! I was super interested in Coachella last year, I'm not even bothering with any of the lives this year FREE MY MIND, ARTPOP.

I was super interested in Coachella last year, I'm not even bothering with any of the lives this year I feel like rock "died" ages ago because the old guard make the various genre scenes so insufferable to be part of lol The way that every genre of rock/metal conversation revolves around someone going "we need more bands like X/Y/Z" and then when they get that new band they complain that the new band is copying the old band and should die. Its so annoying. Or the perpetual "its not actually *insert rock genre*" stuff. Like the amount of abuse Greta Van Fleet get because they are clearly inspired by Led Zepplin is crazy. And then Sleep Token are actually bringing new ideas in and people are threatening to boycott festivals who book them. Pop music specifically lost all it’s appeal to me beyond Gaga in like the mid 2010s because music went from being fun and music I could listen to with my friends on nights out or at parties to being about depression and longing, I blame artists like Adele tbh for making bland pop music so popular again like it was in the mid 2000s. Every artist now just makes music about longing for a lover, being scorned by a lover or depression. Even Gaga was victim to it and still kind of is even on Mayhem.

I never said it was just the top 40, all music genres I’ve heard now have lost their sense of fun since the early 2010s. Music like social media has become too much like politics. Whatever happened to fun as a wise woman once said.
