The Province of Alberta which holds the 3rd largest oil reserves in the World (after Venezuela & Saudi Arabia) also ironically holds the 3rd largest estimated reserves of Lithium in the world valued at over $1T

Yet it produces very little and the world depends on lithium from a few specific Countries particularly China.

Alberta, Canadas wealthiest Province has long relied on oil revenue for its economic status and has been resistant to the worlds shift to renewables but this resource could give it a way out for a new industry that ironically powers the very thing killing oil

Alberta is also growing enthusiastic of developing this resource and to make it marketable especially as new technologies help make the type if lithium present more economical and extractible

Throughout history there's always a pattern of established nations ignoring industrial progress because of the cost. And then they get outpaced and replaced by a newer industrial economy that adopted the new industrial techs...

Omg yes

North America is lagging in so many things its laughable.

Whenever I visit my family in Portugal it fascinates me how many things they are actually ahead of us now. And I realize Portugal is technically still considered an industrialized developed 1st world Nation but it is considerably less wealthy than Canada by most metrics (in fact it has one of the lowest GDP per capita on the list of Countries still considered developed in OECD)

Canada would have been decades ahead of Portugal in development 50+ years ago in mid last century. North America was way ahead of Southern EU in industrial and modern development. Maybe more than even most Northern EU Countries

Now lower income Central and South EU Countries are surpassing us in all types of things and its terrifying. Ill give some examples:

- efficiency of public transportation

- new EV adoption rates

- they got unlimited data deals earlier than Canada and for cheaper

- more interactive tech in stores and malls

Etc etc etc. Specific examples are hard to come to mind but i know there was lots of random stuff everytime i go now and im like "we dont have this in Canada, we still do it the old school way" :air:

I got confused for parking in a place when I went to Lisbon cuz it detected my rentals license plate and when I payed i just had to enter that and then u exit and camera detects ur license plate. I had at the time not yet seen that in Canada and was so confused. I was waiting for the barcode paper u get that u have to push a button then slip it back into machine cuz thats the system most Canadian parking uses :lmao:

I finally saw that parking system in Toronto last month tho so were catching up and theres hope for us still :stalkga:

Canada isnt that weak by global standards at least. We literally are just outside the top 10 largest military spenders in the world at #13 and that was true even before recent budget increases

Problem is our 2 closest neighbours also happen to be literally USA and then Russia and compared to those two monsters were weak as hell :toofunny:

Canada is already the worlds 4th largest producer after USA, Saudi Arabia and Russia. Canada literally produces more oil than all OPEC Countries and middle east like Iraq, Iran, Kuwait, UAE, Quatar etc with the only exeption being Saudi Arabia :awkney:

And in reserves its:

#1 Venezuela (their production is kinda surprisingly low tho for many reasons)

#2 Saudi Arabia

#3 Canada

#4 Iraq

Saudi Arabia has more than Venezuela in terms of oil dollar value tho. Venezuelas oil is crap quality and expensive to produce even though they have so much of it

Edit: I think Canada is literally the only top producer in the world that isnt always on the news for conflict, human rights issues, war or other negative things so it goes unnoticed cuz u associate oil producers with that kind of behaviour. I will include the USA in that negativity too :toofunny:

I think were also the only top producer that actually has half strict environmental standards. Norway would be the next major producer to fit that bill but they barely produce half of Canada so i wouldnt quite call them a top producer.
