Tbh this is the most disconnected I've felt from GGD in ages :bear:

To me the messaging against Chappell feels so orchestrated. Yes, she's harsh about her boundaries but 9 times out of 10 the people harassing her (the paparazzi) are pigs. The only reason people interpret it as 'rude' is because too many celebrities just smile and accept that inhumane treatment as 'part of the job'.

The whole "she should've chosen a different profession" argument is complete rubbish too. The girl went from club performer to headliner in a matter of months. That train took off before she could realistically anticipate where it was heading.

Can you imagine having to adjust to that while it's happening? On one hand your literal dreams are coming true and you want to capitalize on it, but on the other hand your inner peace and privacy are crumbling. It's not as easy as saying "oh I'm just gonna drop everything I've worked and cared for in the past decade".

She has been open about struggling with bipolar disorder and severe depression. Can you really blame her for being protective – and making mistakes along the way?

Not to say that she's above being criticized, but honestly her offenses DO NOT warrant people actively cheering for her downfall.

Off topic, but if performing in US and other colonial countries such as France, the UK, the Netherlands is acceptable, then performing in Israel should be acceptable to.

Never forget the **** the France and Portugal did to Africa. Or the way the UK looter the South Asia and left it to bleed. And these colonial power were the reason behind Israel boundry and stuff. Oh, and they still support Israel.

So, Gaga or other artist performing in Israel is okay, as long as them performing in Texas and france is okay.

i think it's different because countries such as france, UK, or netherlands are not committing explicit and direct acts of colonialism and genocide in the current timeline, and performing in those countries is not seen directly as a political stance, if you want to compare it, for example now it is very frown upon for musicians to be performing in Russia by Ukrainian activists and allies, and rightfully so as the country is still invading and destroying them.

I can't say I'm following avidly or in possession of all the facts.

But I don't really get a great vibe from her lately. Seems like an attitude problem. But I can't quite figure out (and probably not inclined to put the effort into doing so) if this is more towards imperious diva behaviour ... or someone under stress and duress not coping with the profile of her job. I'd like to give her the benefit of the doubt but I also think she probably needs a bit of coaching as to how to handle these situations a bit better without losing control of her emotions.

It seems you conviniently left the US :laughga:

Should we be angry that Gaga is performing in the US and being a mute spectator to its actions despite what it has been currently doing now? In fact the US is actively destabilising countries in West Asia and South Asia, whether it is Republican or Democrat. A few days ago, a US mercenary along with his Ukrainian appliances were arrested in funding and supplying weapons to militant groups in my country so that they can continue their armed violence, but at this point we're already used to it and we don't get the US accountable as it deserves.

About France, UK, or Netherlands, yeah they aren't actively colonizing any country so I don't have much to say against them although none of them formally apologized to the countries they've exploited.

Tbh these subcelebs here in Brazil are so obsessed with any spark of fame and controversy they can get, I wouldn’t be surprised if this is all fake and staged…it’s crazy how this has escalated to the international media when it’s nothing but allegations with no evidence at all

I'm regretting sharing this story with my friend because she's defending Chappell hard and I got no patience for this :saladga:

"Because it is 100% a ploy from him to get in contact with chappell so she will apologise and agree to meet the kid"

:Cautious:

I uh, I may have forgot she's a fan :laughga:

Okay I’m done. She is clearly a whiny ass. Like seriously who tf does she think she is?

she has had like one hit and and a moderate hit

I mean, you can be annoyed with her all day, but Good Luck Babe, Hot To Go, and honestly much of her first album dominated the charts in 2024 🤷

It is ethically questionable to appropriate the aesthetics and codes of a group to which one does not belong and use them as if they were a costume, while simultaneously adopting an ungrateful and repulsive attitude toward the group’s members—an attitude that has nothing to do with a true sense of community.

Her "lesbian cosplay" isn’t my idea but that of close lesbian friends who are truly fed up with the construction of this image (which Chappell has contributed to) that relationships between women are simply about holding hands and cuddling to avoid actually f***ing another woman. Since it’s hard to find lesbian social circles, my friends now have to deal with tons of girls who think being a lesbian is an aesthetic act that you put on or take off like a hat. Chappell is the embodiment of the Gaylor fantasy lmao

The lesbian cosplay argument makes no sense lmao. She literally has multiple songs about ****ing women, in what world is she propagating a cutesy queerbaiting aesthetic? Also, in terms of her disrespecting the LGBTQ+ community and disrespecting/appropriating drag, not only is she a member of the community, but there are also plenty of cis women who are drag queens and she has shown nothing but respect to drag performers (platforming many of them by having local queens open for her on tour), so the idea that she’s somehow homophobic or insincerely co-opting queer culture because she wouldn’t sign some f*ggot’s vinyl insert is ridiculous lmao
