FfFfFfFF 58,133
The implications of this really can’t be overstated. The Church of the Holy Sepulchre is one of the central sites of Christianity, with enormous cultural, spiritual, artistic, and historical significance. Seeing it closed like this is groundbreaking. I know most people here aren’t religious, but the Holy Fire ceremony held there is shared across Orthodox churches on Easter night as a symbol of unity, from Russia to Bulgaria to Greece and beyond. This would be the first time in centuries and basically millenia that Easter isn’t celebrated there. The place is shared across Eastern and Oriental Orthodoxes (around 300 Millions) and Catholics (1.2 Billions). When was East service restricted or closed in the past? Spoiler 🦠 2020 (COVID-19 pandemic) During the global outbreak of COVID-19, the church was closed to the public. Easter ceremonies still technically took place, but only with a tiny number of clergy inside—no pilgrims or crowds. 👉 So: not canceled, but drastically reduced. ⚔️ Historical disruptions (wars & conflict) During periods like the Crusades or later conflicts in Jerusalem, access to the church was sometimes restricted or interrupted. However, records suggest that some form of worship usually continued, even if limited or controlled by whoever held the city. 🏛️ Ottoman & British periods There were occasional political or sectarian disputes that affected access (different Christian groups share control of the site). Still, complete cancellation of Easter ceremonies is not well documented. 🧭 Bottom line A fully canceled Easter celebration with no ceremony at all would be extraordinary and possibly unprecedented in modern history. 5
FfFfFfFF 58,133
Culturally, the Easter celebrations here are arguably the most significant yearly Cristian ceremony iu the world. Al-Aqsa Mosque is also closed! 1

The way things "remained united" during the damn world wars but aren't right now is taking me out... wtf. PartySick 172,545
"AmErIcAs GrEaTeSt AlLy" Yeah, real great ally we got there. I wonder how many more wars we'll start for them or children we'll slaughter on their behalf before they're satisfied. The entire globe is destabilized atm 'cause they wanted to sow chaos in a nation of 90 million people and for what A billion dollars a day of OUR money to randomly kill people for that country. Currently asking for 200 billion more. You know we could wipe out ALL medical debt in America with that money? Send EVERYONE to college with that money? Feed EVERY child in America for YEARS with that money? But sure, let's spend it on a few missiles and bow to our Israeli masters while we murder indiscriminately. My theory is Iran's leader was about to die of natural causes which would have significantly weakened the regime's control over the nation. The people may have actually had a foothold to make significant change or at least improve things. But instead, our dumbass president got cucked by Bibi to kill a nearly 90 year old man and create a martyr so his radical son could take control and keep Iran "a dangerous enemy state" rather than somewhere that was on the cusp of progress. And even if that hadn't have happened, Iran may have became a failed state. A failed state of 90 million people is a breeding ground for terrorism and boy wouldn't Netanyahu love it if some Israelis got killed by extremists (that Israel and the US created)? It'd justify YEARS of homicide easily! ...Sorry, I've been getting my gay life in the last few days/weeks so I haven't had a chance to rant about that skidmark of a nation and my own cauldron of scheiße I'm forced to live in and how I just paid my federal taxes which will probably go towards killing some little girl on the other side of the planet because idk #Freedom or whatever. Anyway, religion is a disease etc etc Easter shouldn't be celebrated regardless but especially not in some gilded cathedral set in a country that's currently trying to end the world as we know it. Lord Mayhem 3,430
I mean...they literally are targeting these holy sites due to the holiday and historical context. This war is not holding back...all bets are off...troops are on the way...oil fields are burning and will take months if not YEARS to rebuild the infrastructure...this war is escalating by the hour and I truly worry we won't last another month. Im an atheist but if there ever was a "god" or aliens...we need divine or extraterrestrial or interdimensional intervention now...it's getting ridiculous

I'm under the impression that Americans don't actually feel the burden of this!?... the wallets must be full of money, no problems with prices or anything? It's only Europeans that are worried? I turn the TV on , and it's a disaster, energy prices just skyrocketed... Even if the war end it tomorrow it will take months to stabilize the effects that the war caused. I'm literally seem everything getting more expensive... I don't even attempt theorizing the mind of mad, egoistical mens, that only care about themselves and the power they hold. The world doesn't deserve any celebration right now.

The US is more energy independent than Europe is. Europe used to rely on Russian oil until the invasion of Ukraine, then they shifted to Saudi/Qatar oil. The infrastructure of both has become massive collateral damage in Iran's desperate slap back after the unprovoked attack by the US and Israel and even if this war ended right now, it would take years for the damage to be undone. But it is hurting Americans too. Our gas prices are skyrocketing and therefore everything that needs transport (like food) is also going up in addition to the dumbass tariffs our dumbass president put in place for no reason. Not to mention thousands of our troops are about to be dropped into a warzone completely confused as to why exactly they're there. I'm just thinking that arm groups will be formed and it's terrorism all over again... The Trump administration has yet to form a coherent reason for attacking Iran and the vast majority of Americans strongly oppose the war. Only ~30% support it and that's just Trump's rabid MAGA base. And to give you an idea of how stupid that ~30% are, when asked about a war with Iran, only like 15% of Republicans supported the idea. Once Trump ordered the attack and defended it, that number jumped to about 80%. They just fall in line with whatever that idiot says. So far, I've heard two excuses: 1) "Iran has nuclear capabilities". Which is bogus and nonsense. The previous leader literally passed a religious law against nukes in 2004 that was still upheld to the day we killed him (for some reason). His son doesn't have the same religious hang up though so congrats, I guess, to the US and Israel for convincing Iran that it infact DOES need nuclear weapons as a deterrent. 2) "We'll control the oil". Heinously stupid and infeasible. A large scale occupation of even just the strait of Hormuz would take tens of thousands of soldiers and billions and billions of dollars. We gain nothing and lose so much. Trump is jabbering on about occupying some island or huge oil field. It just isn't an achievable goal. As an aside, even a ton of Republicans are pissed off because Trump has thrown millions of Americans off of Medicare, food stamps, assisted housing, and dozens of other social programs only to burn over a billion dollars a day waging a goal-less war and now he's asking for $200 billion more on top of the $1 trillion in military spending the senate already gave him last year Make no mistake, Americans are pissed the f*ck off. Honestly, our leadership is mostly a reflection of our institutions at this point, not even our population. Hell, only 33% of Americans even voted for Trump (nearly 33% voted for Harris). Conservative, rural, uneducated voices are not only so much louder, they're overly represented in our government and electoral systems. A progressive has to fight ten times as hard as a conservative to win even a local election despite the electorate itself being fairly left leaning by American standards. Media indoctrination is also a huge problem here but even the incel manosphere types will agree to progressive policies on their faces. Just don't put the "Democrat" label on it. But the crusades were very much representative of the church's golden age, like it was the beginning of catholicism's evilspreading. They didn't have any reason not to celebrate Easter because colonization was justified by the religion. During wws christianism was already established worldwide and even then, when the "entire world" was at war, the church was still an institution that held sense to society. But what's terrifying is that now, we're living not in a world war, not at peace, but a secret worse third option where we're not in wwIII but stupid big traditions like easter won't be celebrated because, well, we actually are in an unspoken world war, and acting like it's not I don't believe in the glorification of murder, I do believe in the empowerment of women
