she shouldve won for TIHTY..... to have that performance of gaga with the survivors, just to give it to a basic bond song was insane - that bond song isnt even near the top of the top bond songs theyve done idk how it won

Truth. Crazy to me that Sam Smith of all people has an oscar in their house lol.

We also need to stop the pandemic of mediocre bond songs winning Oscars. The last truly great one was Adele's with Skyfall. Sam and Billie's wins were awful imo. Billie's 2nd win with What was I Made For? is legendary tho.

Tbf Adele’s was the first one to win (maybe even be nominated for) an Oscar, and there’s been two songs since then. It’s not exactly a pandemic of them.

OT: her songs she’s putting forward are very basic. I’m not surprised she’s not winning. I’ll be honest, even TIHTY isn’t amazing, the lyrics are quite basic and cheesy in parts.

Its horrible. Lets Say It how It Is. It did what It had tò do. And we are thankful for that.

Damn shame that Til it Happens to you lost. In my opinion, it is one of the most moving Oscars performances in history.

I think the thing that soured the chances of winning though, was she obviously felt that it was her handed to win to the point where she felt it was almost an assured thing just because Gaga was singing it during her critical resurgence.

Heck even Gaga got annoyed at the way she acted and spoke in some interviews about it. And they haven’t worked together on anything since ASIB

Oscars aren’t GRAMMYs though, the Oscars awards commercial success of BOS more than actual writing or structure. Of course it lost to a Bond song because Bond movies are commercial successes almost always. The Hunting Ground was a fairly independent documentary with no cinematic release or push.

100%, which is why if Dianne wants to really win she needs to do a blockbuster film. Academy members are notorious for only voting for the most obvious BOS nominee. There’s a lot of heard mentality too so you almost never see nominees competing for it. It’s always the most famous song with no competition. If she bags a song for a big movie, even if the song itself is basic, I bet she’ll win

I know we joke about this but whenever you think about it, despite never winning she’s had MASSIVE songs like I mean she wrote Don't Wanna Miss a Thing, Turn Back Time, Because You Loved Me, How Do I Live, Didn’t Know My Own Strength, Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now, Unbreak My Heart the list goes on…

Shes a legendary songwriter atp

She absolutely should have already won for at least one of those songs they were in movies. Don’t Wanna Miss a Thing and Because you Loved Me would have both been perfect Oscar winners.

May she will be winning it one day. She just haven't get a year with the best chance to win it just yet.

She might make a strong contender, but all the songs that she lost to are just way stronger and way bigger than hers. Especially storyline wise to the movie, since it's an award ceremony for motion pictures in the end.

1987: I've had the time of my life (Dirty Dancing)

1996: You must love me (Evita)

1997: My heart will go on (Titanic)

1998: When you believe (The Prince Of Egypt)

1999: You'll be in my heart (Tarzan)

2001: If I didn't have you (Monsters Inc.)

2014: Glory

(Selma)

2015: Writings On The Wall (James Bond Spectre)

2017: Remember Me (Coco)

2018: Shallow (A Star Is Born)

2019: I'm Gonna Love Me Again (Rocketman)

2020: Fight For You (Judas & Black Messiah)

2021: No Time To Die (James Bond No Time To Die)

2022: Naatu Naatu (RRR)

2023: What I Was Made For (Barbie Movie)

2024: El Mal (Emilia Perez)

2025: Golden (KPop Demon Hunters)

(ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ✧*:・゚ best of both worlds (*´艸`*) ♡♡♡

Some of these songs are horrendous, they easily could’ve just let Diane win as a compensation.

Especially these ones; Roman, golden, and rocket man song.

At this point it feels like

A) it's some kind of inside joke that people aren't voting for her to win an Oscar. They love choosing "overdo" winners and for her to be losing this much is wild.

B) they're only nominating her songs because they're hers. They have not been great for a while.

She could make all the nominated songs next year and the academy would be like:

’due to none of the songs receiving a minimun threshold number of votes there is no best original song this year’
