RAMROD 115,762
To name some: Dad: Black Sabbath, Depeche Mode, Michael Jackson, Ministry, Nirvana, The Offspring, RHCP, Motorhead, Madonna Mom: Frank Zappa, Beatles, Prince, ABBA, Michael Jackson, Mamas & papas, Blondie, Cher, Donna Summer, Chinese folk music I grew up in very musical and eclectic household. All kinds of genres of music were played. I have a lot of original first press of releases of vinyl, CDs and tapes handed down to me from them, as well as some tour t-shirts (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ✧*:・゚ scarlet needle: antares (*´艸`*) ♡♡♡
gagzus 20,361
I was raised around Black Sabbath, Ozzy (solo), AC/DC, Jimmy Hendrix, Cher and a lot of 80s power rock and bands from my Dad’s taste. My mum was into Whitney, Madonna, Kylie, Mariah and then in her later years when I was in school Pink. I also was raised around swing and doo-wop from my grandmother and opera and classical from my grandfather. this is why I’m a pretty open minded person for music and why there’s not a single Gaga project I don’t like because she has made music based around all those genres. I’ve noticed a difference between older fans of Gaga who were raised around varied music and culture around music in the age of physical media and younger ones who only knew top 40 pop music and had the internet. Besides rock he's also obsessed with electro/dance/techno music. My mom prefers brazilian artists but as of international music she really loves Guns N' Roses and The Cranberries. EART HL I NG 744
Mom is where I got a lot of my taste from, because I was like 3 years old playing her records and running the record player perfectly: Journey is her favorite band (only the Steve Perry era, she refuses the others), Stevie Nicks/ Fleetwood Mac (I actually have her original copy of Bella Donna in my collection now), Pat Benatar, Blondie. She was also the one to introduce me to Bowie. And also country singers, Martina McBride being her fave, Trisha Yearwood, Diamond Rio… Dad is someone who doesn’t really show passion for interests except for cars/ home repair, but he likes a mix of 50s/60s/70s rock and country. He likes Steve Miller Band, other artists seem to be just songs rather than albums. He’s the reason I was introduced to MJ

Especially this era, this era really highlighted the divide between Gaga fans who are pop fans and Gaga fans who are fans of a variety of genres. Economy 52,312
My parents have simmialr tastes to eachother are biggest into 1980s pop-rock, pop and some 90s as well. But definitely the mainstream top 10s of the 80s and 90s Some artists they really like include: ABBA, Celine Dion, Alanis Morisette, Pet Shop Boys, Queen, Michael Jackson They do like a lot of more rock or pop-rock songs too as well like I said like those sung by bands or just male rock singers but a lot of them are kinda 1 or 2 hit wonders so it gets kinda complicated to try to list them all. But they were never the type to obsessess over any artist or band. They either liked individual songs or they did not On modern music, I noticed my dads fav songs were from Fefe Dobson and my moms favs were like from JLO and Rihanna They also really like a lot of Lady Gaga songs but dislike her as an artist because they dont like "craziness" but think she has a good voice and good songs Where they disagree most is Taylor Swift. My dad thinks "shes a boss that impressively managed to dominate music like no other" while my mom cant stand her attitude and says "I dont like that shes not nice and not humble"

Especially this era, this era really highlighted the divide between Gaga fans who are pop fans and Gaga fans who are fans of a variety of genres. My way of telling is the people who call HBDUWM a Taylor Swift song or people who call it a Yazoo song. It’s the same as the Madonna comparisons, I’m old enough to have been alive during Madonna’s peak and Gaga beyond like 2 songs and a few looks has done nothing similar to Madonna, if anything she’s more like Bowie, Elton (like people overlook how much like Elton she is) and her fave metal bands. She was comparable to Madonna for 3 years at the most, the other 17 years she’s almost been around she has been more like Bowie and Elton in every aspect. Also people forget what the Haus of Gaga is, nowadays they’re barely talked about but Gaga never shied away about how collaborative her peak was with her friends, people like DaDa for example who was her boyfriend and her collaborator. The Haus were very DIY and how privileged we are to live in an era where she can pay professionals to make things she loves like wigs, outfits, technology etc when she literally had a weave, some iPod screens, some fake crystals and a dream back in the day. Very drag. The fact her tagline was basically that she thinks electronic music isn’t soulless and can be beautiful- and she now has fans who literally criticise and hate on her electronic music and want her to do ROCK music for some odd reason when she shines in an electronic and analog merged space, which Mayhem has proven. Young fans who want her to be here there and everywhere who forget she’s about to turn middle aged and has long term health problems and gave up almost all her whole adult life to be famous. Id highly recommend any fan under the age of 20-25 watch her old interviews from The Fame era specifically and they’ll understand her better now. Like young pop fans they don’t understand the energy and aura of Gaga properly. Because they compare her to these young people who are making music she heavily influenced in the first place. She’s a whole entire generation and level of difference. Taylor Swift wasn’t even on the same level of people like Gaga when Gaga came out which I know people find hard to believe. Gaga has a weird mishmash fanbase (for better or worse) of people. I’m glad she has longevity though. The fact she’s keeping up with young artists without compromising herself and has managed to have multiple hits against people almost half her age is amazing I think. Same for Beyoncé like people forget Beyoncé isn’t from Gaga’s generation of popstars either she’s from Britney’s. And the fact she was actively compared to Madonna as well, not just talked about as being influenced by but actively COMPARED. None of the new artists get COMPARED to their influences nowadays they just get “oh they sound like thisthisthatthat” that’s a huge accomplishment (and probably a reason Madonna actively disliked her) Edited March 18 by gagzus
