looked him up and he was born during the time of the Hays Code which had strict rules in place for film studios (no same sex relationships, no dissing the church, no white slavery)

so im not surprised when old heads like him dont wanna see gay stuff on screen because they were told it was bad their whole lives

not an excuse tho, just food for thought :lolly:

He was born the year it officially ended after a decade of culture shifting away from it, he never experienced Hays Code :lolly:

this sounds more serious than intended lol

Girl I wanted to still believe in Pixar after Disney bought them (even though I just googled and it happened in 2006 but somehow I have memory of being like "ew!" even though I was about 9 lol...) but whew they have fallen down the drain.

So did I. But the truth is, none of these giant, capitalistic, mega corporations worth billions of dollars are ethical or 'good'

But like I said, I truly do believe a lot of the creatives and artists who work for them are good people. Regular people like you are I, who are not rich, who are not shareholders, who want to tell meaningful, rich, stories and express it through their creative talents. Which will be why it seems Disney and Pixar film makers have been trying for decades to get small wins for the queer community over the line, and they are consistently shut down last minute. But I think they sneak them past however they can, like the seemingly same-sex couple in Finding Dory

I'll be myself until they fūcking close the coffin.

yes but im sure he experienced the effects of it because studio heads didnt just stop being homophobic or racist when the Code ended, the culture continued to permeate thru society for decades

This is infuriating. Like being gay is such a sensitive topic, not just a fact of humanity, and depicting a gay crush isn’t “therapy” it’s just representation beyond hetero norms. What a complete piece of trash.

For a while now their films have just been a series of increasingly simplistic, uninspired ideas.

Elemental was literally "what if there were two people and one was made of fire and one was made of water?"

It's hard to believe it's the same studio that made WALL-E and Coco.

Agree but honestly, even Coco was unoriginal. Hero who goes against their family's values or wishes is so overused.

River

Please,

Our nephews knows that we're together and calling us uncles since they started to talk.. they never cared, for them we are together and that's it.

More than that, the teeangers are defending LGBTQ+ now at school and the oldest came out as bi to her grandma first then to us and her parents, like, we built this bridge for her and it's amazing that she could come out at 15 without even fear of rejection.

So sploosh your juice all over me you Riverboy

The reason it's gone downhill so bad over the past few years is because John Lasseter left. That man made Pixar and Disney so much money in his time as a Director and CCO that he reported directly to Bob Iger instead of running up the corporate ladder and also could greenlight whatever he wanted. This new guy is a clown. 20 years of PR down the drain over the last few years between him and the shortlived tenure of the other Disney CEO.
